The golf world has been anxiously waiting for an update on the PGA-LIV negotiations.
And now one of the sport’s most iconic figures has weighed in.
John Daly, who has been a longstanding member of the PGA Tour, recently shared his thoughts on the two conglomerates.
The stakeholders for the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (which owns LIV) and the PGA Tour have been trying to negotiate a merger for quite some time now to no avail.
Daly appeared on the Newsmax show “Rob Schmitt Live” and gave his perspective.
“We’re obligated, we have to play in 15 events a year, on the PGA Tour,” Daly said.
“Our Champions tour is a little less, but to keep our insurance and to keep our 401Ks, our retirement plans going.
“But you know, hey, if those guys want to go to LIV and they’re going to pay them a lot of money, you’re going to play 29 tournaments because you have to play 15 on our tour, and you got to play 14 on theirs.
“That’s the end of the solution. Let’s go play golf.
“Golf’s a global game and everybody should have the opportunity to play … You’re born, you live, and what is it for?
“To make sure you take care of your family.
“LIV Golf is taking care of some people’s families, and that’s the way I look at it.”
Daly then gave credit to PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and President Donald Trump, who have been meeting to help bring the two sides together.
“I just want Jay, and thank God that Daddy Trump is getting involved, because I want it to work out,” Daly continued.
“Because I have friends on the PGA Tour and the LIV Tour, and I want them all to just play.
“The best players need to play.”
‘Daddy Trump’ is certainly a new one.
President Trump is known to be an avid golfer and advocate for the sport.
He has a close relationship with one of the best to ever do it, in Tiger Woods.
Trump bestowed the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom to Woods back in 2019.
“Tiger Woods is a global symbol of American excellence, devotion and drive,” Trump said at the ceremony.
“These qualities embody the American spirit of pushing boundaries, defying limits and always striving for greatness.”
Six years later, Trump is playing a key role in the ever-evolving sport to bring the PGA and LIV together.
Daly has faith it will get done.
Time will tell.
