John Daly has undergone emergency surgery on his left hand.

The 58-year-old revealed the news on Instagram with an update from his Florida hospital bed.

Daly revealed he had gone under the knife

“Emergency hand surgery… thankful (it) went great and Doc McClimans for taking care of me,” he posted. “Be back playing in no time!”

“Should be hitting ’em again soon! Thanks for all the messages,” he later added.

Daly, who made headlines after hitting golf balls over a road on New Year’s Eve, didn’t give any further information on his condition but clearly isn’t too worried about his recovery.

After letting fans know he was OK, it was right back to business.

Daly’s love of alcohol is legendary and he has partnered with Good Boy Vodka to release a range of ready-to-drink cocktails.

Minutes after sharing a post from his hospital bed, he was plugging the drinks on his stories.

He finished up with a throwback post to the time former NFL coach Jon Gruden caddied for him.

Gruden shared the hilarious story from the 2008 PODS Championship after joining Barstool Sports.

“I was up at the Hooters Owl’s Nest they call it, I was just having some beers, I was coaching Tampa, relaxing,” he said on the Pardon My Take podcast. “Lightning bolt, they suspend play.

“So Daly comes up with his caddie, and this rain delay goes on and on, it gets cold and it’s wet, it appears like the tournament is over. So the caddie had a couple of cocktails, he was off.

“I was wearing Daly’s bib, we were meeting fans, taking pictures, and the tournament director came back and he says, ‘Mr Daly, you got 15 minutes to get back in position, we’re going to play four or five more holes before it gets dark.’

“So we go up and hit balls and Daly looks at me and says, ‘Well you’re wearing the bib, let’s go.’ So I carried his bag, and I had been in this Hooter Owl’s Nest drinking some beers, I had to pee like a rhinoceros.

“I got this bag and there’s like 14 diet cokes in there, an umbrella, the thing weighed about 100 pounds and we’re on the 16th hole, I only did it for three holes. I’m like on the 16th hole, ‘Do caddies pee on the course? I don’t know are there bathrooms out here?’ So I had to go pee.

“And then we come up on the 17th hole where the Owl’s Nest was, that’s one of the holes we played, and all my friends had stayed around. Everyone was gone, there were no fans left and they started going, ‘Caddie! Caddie! Caddie.’ I said, ‘I’m going to get ripped for this.’ And sure enough on the Golf Channel they destroyed me for not having any etiquette.”

Daly loves to smoke cigarettes on the course and claims to never drink water or eat vegetables.

“I drink diet coke, I like to have ice which to me is water so I get plenty of water in my diet coke,” he said in 2016.

“Rich Beem calls me ‘The Camel’. I don’t drink water. I hate water. I cannot stand to drink water. I used to drink 12-20 diet cokes a day, I’d go to McDonald’s three or four times a day. To me they always had the best fountain drink.

“I don’t eat beans, spinach, broccoli, any of that stuff. When I was young my dad would force it down me and I would throw it up.”

CBS reporter Will Brinson followed Daly’s round at the 2008 Wyndham Championship and noted every drink, snack, and cigarette.

“Followed him for 18 holes, hawking his every move, taking meticulous notes every time he reached for his golf bag, took a bite or a sip or a puff,” he said.

“First few holes were just kind of eye opening. By the back nine I realized I was essentially watching someone pitch a perfect game.

“The final tally of literally everything he put into his body over a full 18 holes: 21 cigs 12 Diet Cokes 6 packs of Peanut M&M’s 0.0 ounces of water.”
