John Mara’s Saquon Barkley words come back to haunt him as Philadelphia Eagles hero trolls Giants owner

John Mara’s worst nightmare has come true this season.

Saquon Barkley has transformed into a transcendental talent in Kelly Green.

Barkley has always been an elite level running back, but the former New York Giant star, now in Philadelphia, has taken his game to a historic level.

Something that Mara, owner of the Giants, feared when Barkley was in the midst of free agency.

Now Barkley is trolling what seems to be Mara and all of New York.

Remember the now infamous clip of Mara talking about how he would react if Barkley chose to sign with a division rival?

“I’ll have a tough time sleeping if Saquon goes to Philadelphia, I’ll tell you that,” Mara told general manager Joe Schoen.

“He’s the most popular player we have by far.”

The two-time Pro Bowler proceeded to sign with Philadelphia in free agency and has since been on a historic heater.

Now the star running back is having a little bit of fun at Mara’s expense.

In a new ad, promoting Unisom, a sleeping pill, Barkley gave advice to those who are “having trouble sleeping.”

“I’ve heard you guys have had trouble sleeping lately,” Barkley said.

“We got a big game coming up, you should rest up. Maybe try some Unisom.

“I don’t need it, but you might. I’m gonna sleep like a baby.”

Barkley even offered a lullaby of his own.

“Rockabye baby, awake in your bed, as the thought of 2,000 swirls in your head. It sure is tough to lose sleep over football. Not for me though. Goodnight to you all.”

A not so subtle jab at Mara, who, after the season Barkley has had, may not be sleeping for the foreseeable future.

Barkley has rushed for 2,005 yards and had 15 total touchdowns in his first year in Philadelphia.

Only eight other players in NFL history have ever rushed for over 2,000 yards.

Barkley did so in 16 games, just 100 yards shy of Eric Dickerson’s record at 2,105.

The Eagles already announced they will be resting their starters against the Giants in their last game of the regular season before the playoffs, meaning Barkley will come up just short in his pursuit for the all-time rushing record in a single season.

Mara should be counting his lucky stars that Barkley is sitting out, because there’s a good chance he would have broken the record against his former team if he was playing.

And if that happened, Mara would have probably never been able to sleep again.
