UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones was named one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time by podcaster Joe Rogan in conversation with Donald Trump.
The former president of the United States appeared as a guest on UFC commentator Rogan’s podcast ahead of the 2024 November election against Kamala Harris.
Trump asked Rogan who he thought the greatest MMA fighter of all time was and the UFC commentator replied: “There’s a lot of arguments for who’s the greatest of all time. Jon Jones, most people would say, is the greatest of all time. Never lost. There’s certainly a very good argument for that.
“There’s another argument for Georges St-Pierre. I always believe in BJ Penn in his prime, Anderson Silva in his prime. ‘Mighty Mouse’ [Demetrious Johnson]. People forget about ‘Mighty Mouse’ because he’s a smaller guy.”
In response to this Jones posted: “What a time to be alive.”
MMA fans have speculated that Jones voted for Trump as he posted a picture on Instagram capturing him voting.
He captioned the post: “Just voted for the first time, and I’m feeling like a proud American! The registration process was super easy, and I can’t stress enough how worth it this feels.
“Huge thanks to Joe Rogan and @realdonaldtrump for mentioning me in your last podcast. Honored to be considered one of the best fighters on the planet among such fierce competition.
“To all my fellow Americans, especially young ones: get out there and vote! It’s your voice, your power – let’s use it.”
‘Bones’ will try to cement his status as the ‘GOAT’ when he faces heavyweight legend Stipe Miocic on November 17.
Jones already captured the heavyweight belt in March 2023 by defeating Ciyrl Gane via submission in the first round but has not stepped foot in the octagon since.
Jones and Stipe Miocic were scheduled to fight in November 2023 but the former tore his pectoral muscle in training and had to pull out.
That injury put the interim belt into the mix which Tom Aspinall grabbed in style, knocking out Sergei Pavlovich in the first round.
Since it has been over a year since Jones fought, many fans believe he is stalling the division and being unfair to Aspinall by holding onto the belt.
Many people believe that the upcoming fight against Miocic serves no purpose as they see the 42-year-old as the easy option in comparison to fighting a prime Aspinall.
Miocic is arguably the best heavyweight of all time, beating the likes of Daniel Cormier and Ngannou, but the former champion is a declining power.
A way to avoid Aspinall who is the most deadly within the division with six first-round knockout victories to his name in the UFC.
The Brit is the official back up for the fight and claimed he would be willing to fight either Jones or Miocic on an hours notice.
“I’ll wipe out both of those guys in one night if I need to. I can beat these guys, no problem,” he said to Sky Sports in August.
