Jordan Henderson is reportedly close to completing a shock move to Ligue 1 giants Monaco.
England international Henderson joined Ajax last year after a short and unhappy stint at Saudi Pro League club Al Ettifaq.
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the former Liverpool captain is set to sign a deal with the Principality club until 2026.
His new venture will see him link up with former Liverpool teammate Takumi Minamino, who spent two seasons at Anfield alongside Henderson.
Reds legend Henderson could also be set for an emotional reunion with Liverpool in the Champions League.
Monaco have progressed to the play-off phase, where they will face PSG, Brest or Benfica – and the winner will be rewarded with a last-16 clash against Liverpool or Barcelona.
The 34-year-old left Liverpool in 2023 for a money-spinning switch in the Middle East – linking up with another former Reds skipper in Steven Gerrard.
He swiftly returned to Europe six months later, signing for Ajax in January 2024.
But things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Henderson in Amsterdam despite Ajax’s return to form.
The former Sunderland ace has not always found game time easy to come by and was dropped for an Eredivisie fixture shortly after his arrival at the club.
Henderson was also involved in a heated bust up with teammate Bertrand Traore in a Europa League tie earlier this season.
With just days left of the transfer window, Henderson is expected to land on the glamorous Côte d’Azur in his next career step.
Henderson will bring an abundance of experience to Adi Hutter’s young side having been one of Liverpool’s most successful players of all time.
The former England international lifted the Champions League, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup during a glittering 12-year spell at Anfield.
