Juventus vs Manchester City predictions
On the face of it, Manchester City appear to have steadied the ship.
A remarkable seven-game winless run (a streak which featured just one draw) came to an end last week, as City ran out 3-0 victors over Nottingham Forest.
They did not triumph in their last encounter, but City at least avoided defeat by Crystal Palace in a 2-2 draw. Pep Guardiola hopes his side have turned a corner.
It is too early to say that definitively, however. Without Rodri on patrol in the centre of the park, this City team looks vulnerable without the ball.
Forest created chances against them at the Etihad Stadium and Palace manager Oliver Glasner was disappointed that his team only scored twice against City on Saturday.
With Kevin De Bruyne back in the XI, there are signs that Guardiola’s team are getting their mojo back in attack. Five goals in two games is a good return.
Yet anyone who watched the game against Palace will know that City are still nowhere near their best. They are not defending with the authority to which we have grown accustomed, while their possession game lacks sharpness and incision. City, in short, are not out of the woods yet.
It will be very difficult for the Premier League champions to retain their crown given they are eight points behind a Liverpool team that has played a game fewer.
They remain a threat in the Champions League, but City have also stumbled in this competition of late. A 4-1 loss to Sporting CP and a 3-3 draw with Feyenoord saw the 2023 winners drop out of the top eight.
As things stand City are down in 17th. As long as they do not drop below 24th, they are guaranteed one of the knockout phase play-off positions at a minimum. But with tricky trips to Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain on the horizon, City cannot take anything for granted.
Given the quality of their opponents, a win on Wednesday would be a real shot in the arm for City ahead of the Manchester derby this weekend. It would also edge them closer to guaranteeing that top-24 finish. For now, though, it is too early to say they have stopped the rot.

“Winning is not important, it is the only thing that counts,” reads Juventus’ motto. The club’s official position on draws has not yet been established.
Perhaps they should get a move on. Juve have become the draw kings of Italian football this season. The 2-2 tie with Bologna at the weekend was the ninth time in their 15 Serie A matches that the scores have finished level.

Two of their five Champions League games have also been draws, leaving Juventus alongside Manchester City on eight points.
We would not be at all surprised if there was no winner on Wednesday. City’s confidence is fragile and their defensive shape is questionable, so Juventus should have some joy going forward.
Yet we are not convinced the hosts will have quite enough to collect maximum points.

The aforementioned De Bruyne is not quite back to his best yet, but he has brought a renewed drive and coherence to Macnhester City’s attacking play over the last two games.
De Bruyne remains adept at grabbing a game by the scruff of its neck and that is exactly what City needed.
They looked dangerous in the final third against both Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, even though Guardiola knows they can still be more fluid.
Juventus have been accused of sterile possession in several games this term. They will have less of the ball than usual on Wednesday, though, and that could actually give them more of a cutting edge.
Bear in mind, too, that this bet would have paid out in all but one of City’s last nine encounters.

Erling Haaland scored a header against Crystal Palace on Saturday and Manchester City fans will hope he now goes on one of his customary runs.
The Norway international scored 10 goals in his first five appearances of 2024/25, but his rate has slowed down since then.
Even so, Haaland remains one of the most lethal centre-forwards in world football and he will pose a threat to Juventus’ defence here.
He has a good relationship with De Bruyne, who will be one of several players supplying the ammunition at the Allianz Stadium.
