Juventus vs PSV Eindhoven predictions

With 36 Serie A titles to their name, Juventus are by far and away the most successful side in Italian football history.

Yet given their domestic achievements, the Bianconeri have a worse record in the Champions League than you might expect. Indeed, Juve have lifted the trophy on only two occasions – and not at all since 1996.

There have been plenty of near-misses along the way. Juventus have finished as runners-up in the continent’s premier competition on no fewer than seven occasions. No other team has lost as many finals.

Under Max Allegri, Juventus were beaten in the showpiece match in both 2015 and 2017. Since back-to-back quarter-final appearances in 2017/18 and 2018/19, the Italian giants have not even reached the latter stages of the tournament.

That is something Juventus are desperate to rectify, but this is likely to be a transition season under Thiago Motta. No one is really expecting the Old Lady to make a major impact in Europe.

Still, the draw could have been much tougher. Remember, there is no longer a group stage in the Champions League.

The new-look league phase involves eight fixtures per team and one big league table. A top-eight finish would bring a last-16 berth, while the sides ranked between ninth and 24th will contest the knockout stage play-offs.

Juventus have been drawn to face Manchester City, but their other opponents – including Aston Villa, RB Leipzig, Stuttgart and Benfica – are beatable. Even the game against City takes place in Turin rather than Manchester in a welcome development for Thiago Motta and co.

Yet none of those opponents will be overly fearful of this version of Juventus either. That includes PSV, who will arrive in Italy with the intention of collecting all three points on matchday one.

This does not immediately look like a standout fixture, but in our judgement it might actually be one of the more intriguing encounters taking place this week. If you are free at 5.45pm on Tuesday, we recommend tuning in.

Juventus vs PSV Eindhoven betting tips

Juventus and PSV are both seeking a winning start to their Champions League campaigns.

Draw – 3/1 (SBK)

After back-to-back victories 3-0 over Como and Hellas Verona, Juventus have had their progress checked either side of the international break.

A pair of 0-0 draws with Roma and Empoli represent the first stumbling block for Thiago Motta, who replaced Allegri over the summer. The former Bologna boss is still searching for the right balance at his new club.

PSV have no such issues. They stormed to the Eredivisie title under Peter Bosz last season and have continued in the same vein this time around.

PSV have won each of their five league outings in 2024/25 to set the pace in the Netherlands. Remarkably, they have already scored 20 goals while conceding only three.

Bosz’s side will arrive in Turin with genuine belief that they can go back home with all three points. Juventus will give as they have got, but PSV are definitely capable of avoiding defeat.

Go for a draw at 3/1 with SBK

Over 2.5 goals – 4/5 (SBK)

One thing is for sure: PSV will not arrive at the Allianz Stadium with the intention of sitting deep and with the ambition of stealing a couple of chances on the counter-attack or from set-pieces.

PSV are an extremely attacking team under their manager, who has a mixed record throughout his career but is doing a wonderful job in Eindhoven.

Juventus have struggled for goals of late, but they are yet to concede in Serie A under Thiago Motta. However, their backline will be tested throughout this encounter, which is the first ever between these two clubs.

The danger for PSV is that by opening the game up, they could be undone by an opponent that is much stronger than RKC Waalwijk, Heracles, Almere City, Go Ahead Eagles and NEC, the teams they have faced in the Eredivisie so far this season.

Either way, it would be a huge surprise if Juventus were involved in another 0-0 on Tuesday.

Hirving Lozano to score any time – 5/1 (SBK)

Hirving Lozano has scored four goals in his first four appearances this season and, at the price listed above, it is well worth a punt on him adding to his tally on Tuesday.

The Mexico international sat out the 2-0 victory over NEC at the weekend, but he is expected to be involved here despite suffering an injury in a friendly against Genk earlier this month.

Lozano is one of the chief beneficiaries of Bosz’s front-footed, forward-thinking style of play.

Although he has never really been prolific, he has shown signs of improvement in front of goal of late.

The former Napoli man will not be short of motivation on his return to Italy, where he won the Serie A title under Luciano Spalletti the year before last.

Back Hirving Lozano to score any time at 5/1 with SBK
