Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Swans were crowned Uganda Cup winners at Lugogo on Sunday.

The Swans beat league champions Wananchi 1-0 to defend the title they won last year and also become the record winners with two trophies.

Sarah Arinaitwe scored the lone goal from a ball delivered by her captain Winnie Alaro in an edge-of-the-seat game where both sides had chances.

Swans’ defender Winnie Nandi was named MostValuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, following in the steps of her teammate Alaro, who was named National Hockey League MVP.

For Swans, it was the ultimate way of showing they still have their competitive armour on after they had lost the National Hockey League to Wananchi weeks earlier.

But it also helped raise the psyche for the Africa Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) due January 24-31 in Port Said, Egypt. KHC qualified for the tournament by winning the league last year.
