Kenya giants Gor Mahia Football Club will face Uganda’s reigning FA cup holders Kitara on 2nd January 2025 during the official opening ceremony of the 15,000-seater Jaramogi Oginga Odinga stadium in Siaya county, Western Kenya.
Gor Mahia is Kenya’s most successful club with a record 21 titles since 1968, their founding year.
Team captain Maxwell Owachigiu leads the 23-man squad of players that also has three goalkeepers; Chrispas Kusiima, Jamil Kiyimba and Farouk Yawe.
Others on the team include; Jasper Aheebwa, Lazaro Bwambale, Arthur Kiggundu, Benjamin Nyakoojo, Ronald Otti, Ramadhan Dudu, David Kasaija, Frank Kasumba, Erick Muber, Solomon Okwalinga, David Ndihabwe, Marvin Nyanzi, Titus Sematimba, Fred Amaku, Living Kabon, George Senkaaba, Rogers Mugisha, Patrick Kaddu and Hamim Semakula.
This is the first international match for Kitara head coach Wasswa Bossa since replacing Brian Ssenyondo.
The match will mark the official opening of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga stadium where Kenyan president Willaim Ruto and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Kaguta Museveni are expected to be special guests.
This stadium has modern facilities as the FIFA Standard football pitch, an eight lane athletics track, VIP pavilion, public terraces, perimeter wall fence, ticketing boot, floodlights masts, VIP lounges and holding rooms as well as the VIP parking.
The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga stadium is a product of the public-private partnerships.
