KNOW YOUR STARS: Midfielder Davis Kakaire yearns for greatness

As a growing up little boy way back in Iganga district, Eastern Uganda, Davis “Kaka” Kakaire aspired to become a footballer.

Kakaire did not only eye mere playing football, but also, to earn from the beautiful game.

A couple of years down the road, Kakaire is living his dream as he is currently employed at Buhimba United Saints football club, an entity in FUFA Big League, a second-tier division club in the Pyramid of Uganda’s football.

“I am happy to be living my dream and I yearn for even more” Kakaire who is christened as “Kaka” reveals.

“I still need to work harder and play for more professional clubs that pay well and also earn national team caps” he adds.

Kakaire was born to Samuel Magoola and Jenipher Naigaga on 20th April 2001 in Iganga district.

He commenced his elementary education at Iganga Children’s Center (ICC) where he sat his primary leaving examinations.

He then enrolled at Buremba S.S in Mbarara for Ordinary level of education before crossing to Royal Giants High School, Mityana for A-level.

Football journey:

Kakaire, a midfielder who is comfortable both in defensive and offensive roles played for Sheema based Lions Sports Academy, Mbarara Junior Team and Bright Stars junior team.

His first taste of top flight football was at Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in the year 2021.

He then skippered the Ndejje University Football Club in the FUFA Big League before crossing over to Buhimba United Saints Football Club, another second tier entity based in Kikuube district.

“I am happy to play for Buhimba United Saints Football Club. The target at the moment is to earn promotion to the Uganda Premier League” he adds.

Kakaire vividly recollects the moment he signed his first football professional contract.

“One of my highest moments so far was when I signed my first professional contract right from school to UPDF Football Club in the Uganda Premier League” he recalls.

“Also, captaining Ndejje University Football Club was no mean feat for me.” He adds.

The challenging time was when UPDF conceded seven goals during an away contest against Vipers at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

With the continued diligence, commitment and unquestionable work ethic in numerous training sessions vis-à-vis matches, the sky remains the only limit for Kakaire.

Kakaire is a good user of the ball, visionary, able passer from all ranges, an excellent tacker and a team player.

Uniquely, he possesses the “side-mirror” awareness antic, famous for most successful midfielders globally.

Despite his relatively small structure, Kakaire possesses enviable ball protection skills and exceptional jumping abilities to head the ball.

These are important attributes of contemporary footballers to thrive in the hitherto demanding spaces of football in the world.
