KCB KOBs Rugby Football Club, without a doubt, is one of Uganda’s most iconic rugby clubs but success on the pitch, particularly in the 15s, has eluded them in recent years.
The side has won just two 15s league titles (2021 and 2016) in the past decade.
Since their last triumph in 2021, the KOBs had in a way regressed but that is about to change if the club’s 2024 Annual General Meeting held over the weekend is anything to go by.
During the meeting presided over by Club Chairman Dr Tonny Stone Luggya, a comprehensive review of last season was made and the club’s vision as well as plans for the future were laid.
KOBs finished fourth in both the 15s and 7s and were knocked out of the Uganda Cup at the semifinal stage.
To change their fortunes on the pitch, former players Timothy Mudoola and Keith Sseruyange will take charge of the coaching duties.
“We as KCB KOBS have gone back to the drawing board, determined to end our drought of trophies. With new leadership from Head Coach Timothy Mudoola and Assistant Coach Keith Sseruyange, we aim to dominate both the games and the scoreboards this season,” Luggya said.
During the 2023-2024 season, KOBs rebranded and secured a headline sponsorship deal with KCB Bank Uganda worth Ugx 195 million complemented by another deal with Guinness amounting to Ugx 90 million that included kits. However, due to league sponsorship conflicts, the jerseys were not used.
The club aims to extend its partnership with KCB Bank to the tune of Ugx 200 million over two to three years while pursuing other sponsorships to bolster performance and infrastructure development.
“We call upon all our fans to come enjoy poetry in motion, support the boys in every game and training session, and make every weekend a celebration,” Luggya rallied.
