Breaking ranks with the establishment is a long and arduous journey.

After over a year of back-and-forth clashes with the Uganda Rugby Union (URU), the Kampala Old Boys (KOBs) Rugby Club appears to have chosen peace. The impasse between KOBs and URU, which led the former to play in makeshift kits and the latter shadowbanning their home ground, has, for now, been resolved.

KOBs, together with their title sponsor KCB Bank Uganda, launched a new one-year sponsorship extension worth UGX 195 million at Legends Rugby Club on Thursday afternoon. A playing kit re-designed and produced by Samurai (Tessen) was also unveiled.

The jersey of the “new” home and away playing kits now features KCB Bank’s logo on the center chest position and KOBs’ crest on the left chest position.

KOBs said the jersey “symbolises the strength and unity of our team” and “a new era of collaboration and success for the club.” It will be worn in the forthcoming matches of the ongoing men’s Uganda Rugby Premiership.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Luggya Tonny Stone, KOBs’ chair is grateful to KCB Bank Uganda for supporting the legendary rugby club. He said, “This new jersey represents more than just a uniform. It embodies the spirit and resilience of our team but most importantly peer to peer brand confidence, necessary in sports marketing, that KCB has in the value of KOBs RFC after the first year of partnership. We are grateful to KCB Bank Uganda for their support and belief in our vision.”

KCB Bank Uganda’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Mrs Diana Komukama Ssempebwa commented, “Our partnership with KCB KOBs Rugby Club reflects our dedication to promoting sports development in Uganda. We are proud to see our brand represented on the kit and look forward to celebrating the team’s successes in the upcoming season.”

Fans can purchase the replica jerseys at UGX 250,000 from Simon Makumbi’s Sports Mansion store.

KCB KOBs will host arch-rivals Black Pirates in their next home match this Saturday.
