Baspana FC clinched the 2024 KYACOS League title. The victory marked the culmination of a journey that began in the hallways of Kyambogo College over a decade ago.
Humble Beginnings
The roots of Baspana FC trace back to 2009 when a group of energetic students at Kyambogo College turned every available space into an impromptu football pitch. Their notorious “Ggi luyi” games, played with makeshift balls, became so disruptive that school administrators were forced to intervene.
Undeterred, these young football enthusiasts simply shifted their matches to after-school hours. What started as casual play soon evolved into organized competition, with two main teams emerging that is East-West and North-South. These evening showdowns quickly became a highlight of campus life, drawing enthusiastic crowds that cheered until sunset.
A League is Born
Fast forward to 2023, and the Kyambogo College School (KYACOS) League was born. More than just a football competition, the KYACOS League serves as a platform for alumni to reconnect, exchange ideas, and relive college memories. When the call for team registrations went out, the former Kyambogo College students knew they had to seize the opportunity.
The 2009-2014 cohort chose the name Baspana FC, a nod to their schoolyard nickname “Baspana” (Spanish players), earned for their organized style of play reminiscent of the Spanish national team. Armed with their shared history and passion for the game, Baspana FC was ready to make its mark on the league under coach David Ssenkya.
