Arsenal and Aston Villa are set to miss out on transfer target Joan Garcia as he edges closer to joining Barcelona.

The Espanyol goalkeeper is a wanted man this summer as several sides attempt to upgrade their options.

The Gunners are looking at landing competition for David Raya with current deputy Neto now 35 years old.

Meanwhile, the Villans could lose Emi Martinez with Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Saudi Pro League sides interested in his services.

Arsenal and Aston Villa, though, are set to be disappointed as target Garcia closes in on signing for LaLiga giants Barca.

Even though he plays for local rivals Espanyol, the former Spain youth international looks set to join the five-time Champions League winners.

It’s reported the Olympic gold medalist will sign a five-year contract at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona will have to trigger his €25million release clause to sign the shot-stopper.

Garcia will replace long-time No.1 and club captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who missed almost all of the 2024/25 season due to a ruptured patellar tendon.

An exit for the German would end an 11-year spell in Barcelona having joined from Borussia Moenchengladbach in 2014.

He still has three years left on his current deal but has one of the highest salaries in the squad.

And the player himself has reportedly indicated he’s willing to leave the club.

The German has spent his international career in the shadow of legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

And heading into a pre-World Cup season, Ter Stegen will be keen for regular football as he looks to claim the No.1 jersey at the tournament being held in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Missing out on Garcia might not be Aston Villa’s only issue this summer.

Failing to qualify for the Champions League means they may well have to sell players to comply with spending rules.

This could see them discard academy product Jacob Ramsey and the £50m-rated prospect would be registered as 100 per cent profit for the club.

Chelsea have interest in Morgan Rogers but talkSPORT understands Villa are determined to retain his services.
