Pick-up basketball is a popular leisure and off-season activity among basketball lovers and fans. It’s that part of basketball that involves every aspect of playing the game but won’t leave you exhausted or panting as a competitive practice or game would because it’s generally open in nature.
Recently, basketball enthusiasts started organising pick-up tournaments and adding entertainment to make them even more appealing.
In 2020, Rachael Kuliva, a retired player who featured for UCU Lady Canons, KCCA Leopards and JKL Lady Dolphins, took a bold step to start a pick-up tournament that primarily targeted engaging women through the sport of basketball.
Now in its third edition that takes place on Sunday, October 20 at YMCA in Wandegeya, Kuliva and her team have taken it a notch higher with stars from showbiz, entertainment and rugby (active and retired) set to grace the event themed “delivering opportunities and life skills to women in and through sports”.
Journalists reporting on basketball along with local celebs will be engaged in a sideshow of exhibition games with Rugby Legends. Wheelchair Basketball will be on the show too.
As was the case last year in the second edition, 10 teams shall be battling out and the winners shall win themselves three million shillings, with the first runners-up taking home two million while the second runners-up shall bag a million.
