Leicester v QPR prediction
Leicester head into Saturday afternoon’s FA Cup third round tie as strong favourites for victory over QPR, but will need to end a five match losing streak in order to book their place in the hat for the next round.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s tenure as Leicester manager started with a 3-1 victory over West Ham back in December, but in his six matches with the East Midlands club since, his side have picked up only one point, dropping to second bottom in the Premier League table.
The Foxes’ 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon, their fifth loss in succession leaves them two points from safety with an inferior goal difference compared with the teams above them.
Leicester won this competition for the first time back in 2021, and will need to overcome a QPR side loving life at the moment with their 2-1 win over Luton on Monday night leaving them with just one defeat in their last 11 games.
Marti Cifuentes’ side were second bottom of the Championship table after a 2-0 defeat at Leeds in November, but their long unbeaten run since has seen them climb up to 13th table, just two points off the top half.
The west London side have only won one of their last five FA Cup matches and will see Saturday as a real opportunity to reach round four for the first time in three years, beat Premier League opposition, and perhaps more importantly continue their good run of results.
Likewise, Leicester will see this weekend as the perfect chance to get back to winning ways against what on paper is a much weaker side to those they’ve been playing against this season, and may be used as a catalyst for a strong run of form.
Leicester’s quality and need for a win combined with QPR’s fantastic form of late leads me to believe a 1-1 draw is the most likely outcome, though with no more replays and the tie needing to be decided on Saturday, I think a penalty shoot out is more than a possibility.
Leicester v QPR betting tips
Michael Frey scored on his first start for QPR since suffering a calf injury back in October in the Rs’ New Year’s Day victory over Watford last week to make him the west London side’s outright leading goalscorer this season.
The Swiss striker now has six goals to his name, bagging in each of his last two games for the club having also found the net against Luton on Monday night.
Leicester are in big trouble and in need of any sort of win to end their current losing streak, though have the Premier League quality to be able to force a result form a Championship side who are in form but also currently in the bottom half – I think this tie could go all the way.
- Michael Frey to score – 3/1 on bet365
- Game decided after penalties – 7/1 on bet365
