Messi has netted 19 goals in 21 games this season and all that despite having missed a large portion of game time due to his participation in the Copa America followed by an injury picked up at the tournament.

However, whilst Messi continues his inspired form on the pitch, he does so safe in the knowledge that he is provided with the best protection possible.

Hoards of adoring fans flock to stadiums each week to get a glimpse of the World Cup winner, but with that comes the possibility of fans invading the pitch.

Inter Miami hired former military operative Yassine Cheuko as Messi’s bodyguard upon his arrival at the club and it’s fair to say he has the star’s best interest at heart.

Chueko was seen sprinting across the pitch during Miami’s recent 1-0 win against Toronto, to stop a young fan making their way to the Argentine.

After clocking the fan’s advances, Chueko burst into incredible speed as he made his way to the centre circle where Messi was standing from his position close to the corner flag.

The sprint took just seven seconds to reach Messi, easily beating the youngster who had a substantial headstart on the bodyguard.

Cheuko did his job by keeping the youngster at bay however Messi gave permission for the child to take a photo with him before returning to the stands.

The former United States Navy Seal is an imposing figure who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He was recommended by Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham as the man to provide Messi’s security in the United States.

Chueko is responsible for patrolling the pitch during games and leads a team of 50 people that work round the clock to keep the star safe.

The bodyguard has become an internet sensation with 843,000 followers on Instagram.

Among his followers are Paul Pogba, Sergio Aguero, Sergio Ramos and of course, Messi himself.

According to The Sun, Chueko is paid £198,000-a-year to keep tabs on Messi although there are suggestions that it could actually be closer to £3 million.
