Liverpool vs Bournemouth predictions
Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season in the Premier League last weekend. A 1-0 home defeat by Nottingham Forest, which came as a huge surprise, ended their 100 percent start under Arne Slot.
The Reds were below par in that match. They struggled to create clear-cut chances, and while Forest did not exactly pepper the Liverpool goal either, they did manage to take one of their opportunities on the counter-attack in the second half.
It was vital that Liverpool bounced back in midweek, but their first assignment of the 2024/25 Champions League was not easy.
In a rematch of the finals of 2005 and 2007, Liverpool faced AC Milan on matchday one. They fell behind in that game, but goals from Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai turned things around and gave the visitors to San Siro a 3-1 win.
“Losing Saturday was a blow and to be 1-0 down early tonight, you are wondering how we [will] react,” Slot told Amazon Prime in a post-match interview. “But if you can play so good it is – I won’t say a disgrace – unbelievable you lose to Forest at home if you can play like this today.”
It is important that Liverpool do not suffer another setback against Bournemouth this weekend. They do not want to get a reputation for being a team that struggles to win the games they should, especially in front of their own fans.
It is still too early to say whether Liverpool are ready to go toe-to-toe with Manchester City and Arsenal over the course of a 38-game campaign. They looked set to do so last time out, only to fade away late on.
But if a title tilt is to be possible in Slot’s maiden campaign, Liverpool need to get the job done in matches like this one. Having slipped up against Forest, the Reds must bounce back here.
This is a fixture they have dominated in recent years, winning their last five meetings with Bournemouth at Anfield by an aggregate scoreline of 20-2. Slot will want to see another dominant display this weekend.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth betting tips
Bournemouth make the trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
Liverpool to win and under 3.5 goals – 6/4 (Betfred)
Bournemouth have made a decent start to the season, winning one, drawing two and losing one of their four outings to date.
The sole defeat was at the hands of Chelsea last weekend, but Bournemouth could easily have won that match on the balance of play across the 90 minutes.

They are an excellent pressing team under Andoni Iraola and they have the attacking movement and quality to cause Liverpool one or two problems here.
It is hard to see past a win for Slot’s team, though. The Nottingham Forest defeat was probably a one-off and Liverpool should prove too powerful on home turf this time around.
It will probably be a tight encounter, however, so three goals or fewer is the way to go.
Go for a Liverpool win and under 3.5 goals at 6/4 with Betfred
Second half higher scoring – 19/20 (Betfred)
Liverpool were in action in Italy on Tuesday night, whereas Bournemouth have had the full week to prepare for their trip to Anfield.
It is too early in the campaign for fatigue to have set in, but Bournemouth’s dynamism and energy could give them an edge early on.
Iraola will no doubt have studied Nottingham Forest’s approach from last weekend. Nuno Espirito Santo packed the centre of the pitch and that helped to gum up Liverpool’s approach play.
Iraola will not necessarily copy that game plan, but Bournemouth may have some joy in keeping the score down early on.
The match is likely to open up in the second half, though, which is why we fancy more goals after the interval.
Back the second half to have more goals at 19/20 with Betfred
Mohamed Salah to score any time – 9/10 (Betfred)
Mohamed Salah found the back of the net against Ipswich Town, Brentford and Manchester United in his first three appearances of the season, but he did not score against either Nottingham Forest or AC Milan.
Salah will be itching to wheel away in celebration again and we like his chances of doing so against Bournemouth.
The Egypt international has an excellent record against Bournemouth. In 10 meetings he has tasted victory nine times, while making the net ripple on nine occasions too.
Salah is remarkably consistent and although he was relatively quiet against Forest, he will be back on the scoresheet soon.
Iraola’s team can be vulnerable at the back if they do not regain possession via their counter-pressing, so a player of Salah’s ability should get a fair few chances on Saturday.
Tip Mohamed Salah to score any time at 9/10 with Betfred
