Lugazi Hills and Country Club (formerly Mehta club) will host the 84th edition of the prestigious Uganda Golf Open series in 2025.
The development was confirmed by Dr Jackson Were, the president of Uganda Golf Union (UGU).
“Lugazi Hills and Country Club will host next year’s Uganda Golf Open series” Dr Were spoke during the climax of the 83rd edition hosted at the par-71 Entebbe club.

“Our idea has always been to grow the game beyond the confines of the central parts and having produced talented champions like Godfrey Nsubuga and Joseph Reagan Akena, who are the two most recent Uganda Open winners, we deliberated upon it as a Union and awarded the next Open to Lugazi” Dr Were was quoted by The Observer.
This will be the first time that the Uganda Golf Open series are hosted outside Kampala and the cosmopolitan zones.
The golf course at Lugazi Hills and Country Club was recently elevated to an 18-championship course and now focus is on putting up a new club house, putting greens and the range.
The Uganda Golf Open series entail the juniors, seniors, ladies, main open (amateurs) and the professionals, played over a period of three weeks.
For the past few years, Uganda Breweries Limited under the Johnnie Walker brand has been the headline sponsor.
Joseph Reagan Akena (Lugazi Hills and Country Club) won the main open in 2024.
Iddy Hussein Madina won the ladies open whilst Cosmos Ocitit and Winnie Musuya triumphed in the male and female junior categories respectively.

Edrae Kagombe was the female senior winner and Steven Katwiremu successfully defended the male senior title.
Zambian professional Dayne Moore took the pros’ gong as he claimed the biggest portion of the Ug.Shs 150,000,000 cash prize.
