The show will return on ITV and be hosted by Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff.

The ex-England cricket star said: “Bullseye was one of my favourite shows as a kid.

“I can’t quite believe I’ll get to host this.”

The original Bullseye series was hosted by Jim Bowen and ran for 15 series between 1981 and 1995.

But with a Christmas special planned in for this year, the hope is that the success of the show could lead to a new series next year.

A TV insider told The Sun: “Luke wasn’t even born when Bullseye was on our screens with original host, Jim Bowen.

“But Luke knows this is a plum role to have landed.

“As he steps up to the Bullseye oche he knows he’s following in the footsteps of legends including Eric Bristow and Jocky Wilson who all threw darts on the programme in its 1980s heyday.

“It’s also a coup for the makers of the new Bullseye as Luke is now one of Britain’s best-known players.

“Producers moved swiftly to sign him shortly after the programme was recommissioned by ITV.

“It all adds to the huge sense of excitement for the programme to return.”

Littler has enjoyed a quite remarkable 12 months after be defied expectations to reach the final of the World Championship in January this year.

Since then he didn’t just earn a shock place in the Premier League, but went on to win it with an 11-7 victory over Luke Humphries at the O2 Arena in London.

He’s also won the World Series Of Darts final, along with the Bahrain Masters and the Poland Masters.

With the World Championship coming up at the end of the year, Littler will be hoping to cap off a perfect year by going all the way at Ally Pally.
