Luton Town v Leeds United prediction

The two teams continue to fight at opposite ends of the table, with Leeds sitting in second two points off Sheffield United in top spot and Luton Town currently second bottom, two points off safety. Though the form of both teams heading into Saturday’s fixture would look to tell a different story.

After going 13 games without a win, Luton Town have recently found new life winning three of their last five games. With last week’s 1-0 win against Hull City, thanks to an own goal from defender Alfie Jones, giving The Hatters a boost to their survival chances and an opportunity to save what has been a disappointing season for Matt Bloomfield’s men.

As for Leeds, what has at one point looked like a fairly simple run to automatic promotion has now turned into a dog fight. The Whites now sit second equal on points with Burnley despite sitting seven points clear of them only a month ago.

The Whites have won just one of their last five league games with their most recent blow coming at the hands of Swansea City last week which allowed them to be leapfrogged by Sheffield United.

Brenden Aaronson had opened the scoring for Leeds just 35 seconds in, and despite being pulled back by Swansea defender Harry Darling, Leeds looked destined to take home all three points when Wilfried Gnonto scored a minute after being subbed on with just four minutes to go. However Swansea forward Zan Vipotnik popped up six minutes into added time to equalize for The Swans once more.

It has been 19 years since Luton were victorious over Leeds with their most recent fixture ending in a 3-0 win for The Whites thanks to goals from Sam Bryam, Joel Piroe and Daniel James and despite the form of both teams, it’s hard to look past Leeds continuing that run.

Leeds to win 2-0, Joel Piroe to score and over 10.5 total corners – 16/1 with NetBet.

Leeds have scored exactly two goals in five of their last nine games, including their three most recent fixtures, a 2-0 win over Millwall and two 2-2 draws against QPR and Swansea. The Hatters have failed to score in five of their last nine games and also drew a blank when the two sides met in the reverse fixture.

Only Nowrich forward Borja Sainz has scored more goals than Leeds’ Joel Piroe in the Championship this season. The Dutch striker has scored 15 goals including one against Luton last time out.

Leeds take the most corners on average per match than any other Championship side with 7.2 a game, 0.8 more than anyone else. Whereas Luton games average a total of 10.5 corners taking 5.7 a game themselves.
