Luton v Watford predictions
Despite being 13 places below their opponents in the league table, Luton are strong favourites at evens to win Saturday lunchtime’s local derby against fierce rivals Watford.
Since suffering relegation from the Premier League last season, Luton were among the favourites to earn an instant return to the top flight with promotion this season, but have suffered from a slow start to the campaign, winning just two of their 10 matches in all competitions this season.
The lack of positive results has piled pressure on Hatters boss Rob Edwards, whose side head into the weekend just one point and one place above the relegation zone.
The Bedfordshire side’s season looked to have finally got up and running with back to back victories over Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday to start September off, but the Hatters have since picked up just one point from their last three matches.
Watford, on the other hand, started the campaign with five consecutive victories, launching them to the top of the Championship table by the start of September, but have since won just two of their last seven matches ahead of the weekend.
Both those victories have come in Tom Cleverley’s side’s last three matches though, with their win over Middlesbrough just before the international break taking them back into the top six, where they’ve spent the last fortnight.
The Hornets will be the more confident side heading into Saturday’s derby as they make the short trip from Hertfordshire, but the odds suggest they have an uphill task at Kenilworth Road, perhaps in the knowledge that Watford have lost each of their last four away games.
Watford will be by far the confident team heading into the weekend, with Edwards knowing that defeat against his old team be his last game in charge of the Hatters, should they drop back into the relegation zone.
The Hornets should be able to get the better of their opponents who lack any sort of confidence ahead of the rivalry, and will be fired up for the prospect of a derby victory away from home, I think a 2-1 Watford win seems most likely.
Luton v Watford betting tips
Watford’s slump in form seems to have come to an end having won two of their last three games, against Sunderland and Middlesbrough, both of whom will be expecting to be in the top six come the end of the season.
Luton on the other hand, looked to have fixed their early season winning drought with back to back victories in September, but have since won one point from their last three games and sit just a point above the relegation zone as pressure on the manager mounts.
