Luton v West Brom predictions
Luton head into Friday night’s Championship fixture as the marginal favourites despite currently occupying the relegation zone after a desperately disappointing opening few months of the season.
Rob Edwards’ side have picked up just 11 points from their 12 league games this season, which naturally has the manager under pressure for his job despite having led the Hatters to their first ever season in the Premier League last year.
The Bedfordshire side head into the weekend having lost each of their last two matches, with just one win in their last six games and four defeats in that same spell, while no team in the Championship have lost more home games this season than Luton.
Last weekend saw a repeat of the Championship play-off final of 2023, which Luton won on penalties against Coventry, and went 2-0 up away from home in the match only to concede three second half goals and return home with their tails between their legs and no points to show for their first half efforts.
Visiting Kenilworth Road on Friday night are a West Brom side still flying high after a speedy start to the season, in which they led the division at the end of September after picking up 16 points from their opening six matches.
Since then though, Carlos Corberan’s side have failed to find ways to win matches, which has left them without a win in each of their last six games.
Two defeats followed four consecutive draws, the most recent of which came last weekend in a goalless draw with Cardiff, which leaves them in fifth place in the table, still only three points off the automatic promotion places, but also just two points ahead of ninth.
The Baggies have completely lost their shooting boots, scoring just one goal in their last five matches, leaving the job of picking up points to their defence, who have kept clean sheets in three of their last four games to ensure their points tally keeps ticking over.
Luton have won only one of their last eight league meetings with West Brom, but head into Friday’s game as favourites with both teams struggling to find a win in recent matches, which leads me to think a draw may well be on the cards on Friday night. 1-1.
Luton v West Brom betting tips
Norwich’s Borja Sainz is the only Championship player to have scored more goals than West Brom’s Josh Maja in all competitions this season, the latter having bagged seven goals in 12 games for the Baggies so far this campaign.
West Brom head into the weekend in winless in their last six, while Luton have won just one in the same span, which the West Midlands’ side four-match drawing streak could well be extended this weekend, with neither side having possession of the winning formula of late.
