Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson remains committed to WWE despite his WrestleMania status remaining unclear according to a new report.

The wrestling megastar turned Hollywood sensation has returned to his grappling roots in sensational style in 2024.

The Rock played a starring role in WWE in the lead up to WrestleManiaWWE

After finding fame during the Attitude Era, he transitioned into one of the biggest movie stars on the planet with a string of major film roles across the last two decades.

He continued to drop by his old stomping ground for sporadic cameos, but in the early part of this year played a full part in a long-term storyline culminating at WrestleMania XL in the Spring.

He even featured in his first serious match for over a decade with a breathless performance in the tag team main event alongside Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, leaving fans eager for more from the veteran.

The run coincided with Johnson’s appointment to the Board of TKO, which essentially operates as WWE’s parent company, giving the star a major role both on and off screen with the wrestling entity.

He took a step back away from active competition after Mania to focus on filming The Smashing Machine, but quickly set wrestling pulses racing again with an appearance at the end of Bad Blood earlier this month, confronting Rhodes and Reigns.

That set fire to speculation on next year’s WrestleMania, Rock himself forced to step in with a strongly-worded blast at rumours that he won’t be featuring at the 2025 spectacle.

What’s followed has been a ‘will he, or won’t he?’ style debate amongst fans, leading to a new report that makes clear Johnson’s commitment to WWE – even if it doesn’t necessarily nail down his Mania status.

Also touching on the likelihood of an appearance on January’s debut of Monday Night Raw on Netflix, noted US outlet Fightful revealed: “…Sources within WWE claim that the company is a priority for the Rock, and he’s expected in the fold here and there in sporadic fashion.

“Higher ups [said] the Rock has made clear he’s a part of “the family” and will appear when he’s able.

“Sources at the Intuit Dome told Fightful they were hopeful the Rock would be present at the first WWE Raw on Netflix, and there’s buzz internally for it, even though it’s not confirmed.”

The Rock’s appearance at Bad Blood was his first for six monthsWWE

Focusing on WrestleMania, held in Las Vegas next year, they added: “In regards to rumors that Rock said he wouldn’t be working WrestleMania, in asking around, none of our WWE sources knew where that came from. Those we spoke to said they had not heard either way of him appearing.”

The Moana star’s cameo at Bad Blood, they stated, was not one nailed down too far in advance, as is seemingly customary for The Rock’s schedule and style of working.

They went on to say: “One WWE source said that it’s hard to predict what the Rock is going to do six months out because he’s going to do pretty well what he wants from a career and appearance perspective.

“Another WWE Producer said that if The Rock decides shortly before a show that he wants to appear, he will. Several others said that as of right now, they’ve not been given messaging that the Rock WON’T appear at WrestleMania.”

WrestleMania remains the biggest WWE show of the year and, in 2025, will be aired on Netflix for the first time with the first RAW to be aired on the streaming giant scheduled for January 6.
