Josh Padley scored a stunning upset over Mark Chamberlain in the first fight on the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois undercard.

Padley entered the bout as somewhat of an unknown quantity, given that most of his fights had been on small hall shows and he only boxes part-time due to his day-job as an electrician.

But he proved he was worthy of the main stage as he overcame odds of 9/1 to defeat Chamberlain via unanimous decision.

Chamberlain has been a mainstay of Riyadh Season cards and is an apparent favourite of Saudi boxing chief HE Turki Alalshikh.

However, the Portsmouth puncher had a torrid time at Wembley Stadium as he was dropped in the eighth round en route to a defeat on the scorecards by margins of 95-93, 96-92, 96-92.

Ahead of fight night, there was talk of Chamberlain landing a WBO lightweight title shot against Denys Berinchyk on the Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury II undercard on December 21.

However, Padley has now spoiled those plans.

Esteemed boxing journalist, Dan Rafael, told the Big Fight Weekend podcast: “The main thing you should know about it is this.

“Mark Chamberlain is the favourite fighter of Turki Alalshikh.

“He is hand-picked to be on these cards, both in Saudi Arabia and this card here in Wembley, because he is Turki’s favourite fighter…

“Although this is not official, I am told by multiple sources that if Mark Chamberlain wins this fight, and all is well health wise that he will be on the Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk II undercard – and he will be challenging Denys Berinchyk for the WBO title.

“He’s got the Berinchyk fight right there in his palm with a victory.”
