Man City vs Newcastle predictions

Every time Manchester City look to have turned the corner, something seems to go wrong again.

The Light Blues lost 5-1 to Arsenal in their last Premier League outing. The defeat ended a six-match unbeaten league run.

In the Champions League they finished the group stage with a 3-1 win over the underrated Club Brugge.

City then held a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid with less than five minutes remaining in the first leg of the playoffs.

They then contrived to lose the match 3-2 at the Etihad on Wednesday.

The loss to Real gives City a mountain to climb in the second leg in Madrid on Wednesday.

Furthermore, the two late goals must be of cause for concern for Pep Guardiola. They highlighted the lack of confidence in the team.

And this is why the bookmakers have the Light Blues at almost even money to beat Newcastle on Saturday.

bet365 have City at 9/10. In the past they would have been more like 3/10.

One damaging statistic that points to City’s problem is they have conceded 35 goals in the Premier League this season.

Ten teams –  including Manchester United, Everton and Crystal Palace – have conceded fewer.

The days of Ruben Diaz and his teammates celebrating a blocked shot like a goal seem a lifetime ago.

There is still plenty for City to play for this season. Putting aside the Champions League, they are still in the FA Cup, and they have a fight on their hands to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

City started Matchday 25 in fifth place on 41 points. They are ahead of sixth placed Newcastle on goals scored alone.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle have stuttered in the Premier League recently. The Magpies saw a six-match winning run end with a 4-1 home defeat to Bournemouth on Matchday 22.

Newcastle immediately bounced back with a 3-1 win away at Southampton. But a second successive home defeat followed when Fulham won 2-1 at St. James’ Park on Matchday 24.

Since the loss to Fulham, Newcastle have beaten Arsenal 2-0 in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final to ensure a date at Wembley.

Eddie Howe’s team also overcame a plucky Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s in the FA Cup last Saturday with a 3-2 win.

The two wins will give the Magpies belief they can get something at the Etihad.

Man City vs Newcastle betting tips

The Cityzens and the Magpies both have 41 points and a goal difference of +13. All that separates them is the six goals more City has scored. Can they be separated on Saturday? Find out in our Man City vs Newcastle United betting tips:

Man City to win

Man City have won seven of their 11 home matches in the Premier League this season. Newcastle have lost three of their 12 on the road.

Bizarrely, the Magpies have picked up more points per game on the road (1.75), than they have at home (1.67). But we don’t see that making much difference this weekend.

City have won their last two at the Etihad by an aggregate of 7-2. They started with a 4-1 win over West Ham and followed that up with a 3-1 win over Chelsea, a fellow top four contender.

They did drop points to Everton and lost to Manchester United in their previous two matches. But if City can get ahead early, we can see them going for the kill to avoid any more late dramas.

It’s also not often City is nearly even money to win at the Etihad in the Premier League. And I for one don’t want to miss those odds.

⚽ Back Man City to win at 94/100 with SBK ⚽

Erling Haaland to score anytime

Erling Haaland is back in the goals again.

After a dry spell pre-Christmas, Haaland has scored in five of City’s last six Premier League matches, and he also bagged a brace in the 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday.

City might be misfiring, but Haaland seems to be over his drought. The problem for the Light Blues looks to be at the opposite end of the pitch. We expect the big man to keep his run going strong.

⚽ Back Haaland to score his seventh goal in his last seven Premier League matches at 10/11 with bet365 ⚽

Over 3.5 goals

There have been over 3.5 goals in Manchester City’s last five in the Premier League, and in nine of their last ten matches in all competitions.

The only match with under 3.5 goals was City’s 2-1 win over Leyton Orient in the FA Cup 4th Round.

Newcastle have had over 3.5 goals in six of their last 11 in the Premier League. Ten of those matches had over 2.5 goals.

We know the Light Blues are struggling at the back. And as well as having Alexander Isak, Newcastle has scored in their last 17 matches in all competitions.

The bottom line is this match just looks set to have plenty of goals.
