Marcus Rashford will not take a pay cut to leave Manchester United, talkSPORT understands.
Rashford is running out of options for a move this month despite his advisers holding talks with clubs including Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.
One of the main barriers is the fact interested clubs have been told they will either have to cover the majority of his wages, in excess of £350,000-a-week, or come up with a compromise deal with United.
United are also believed to be reluctant to make too big a contribution after Rashford publicly stated his desire to leave by admitting he was ‘ready for a new challenge.’
It comes after months of speculation surrounding his Man United future, having been absent from the majority of Ruben Amorim‘s squads.
More recently, Amorim said that the 27-year-old forward must change his attitude if he’s to make a return to the Manchester United starting line-up.
The forward’s exile from Amorim’s plans have continued this week as he was left out of their travelling squad to face FCSB in the Europa League.
Amorim told reporters: “Imagine a talent like Rashford, our team should be so much better with him – but he has to change.
“If he changes, we are more than welcome [to include him] – and we need it. But in this moment we have to set some standards. We are waiting for Rashford, if he wants it really bad.
“You [the media] want to make it personal, I have nothing against Marcus, but I have to make the same rules for everybody.
“We need goals, we need [players who can go] one against one, we need threat in the final third.”
It has now been almost two months since Rashford’s last appearance in a Man United shirt, most recently playing in a win over Viktoria Plzen on December 12.
Amorim added: “The situation is the same for every player. I will not put [in] any player that doesn’t give the maximum.
“When I feel it is the right moment, I will put in any player to play. We are a better team with Rashford, that is clear, but until the right moment I will not change my mind.”
Rashford, who is not out of contract until 2028, has scored three goals in his six appearances under Amorim and appeared to be finding form again under the new boss.
Having tried to find a move away from Old Trafford this month, it has failed to materialise, largely due to his eye-watering salary.
Man United legend Wayne Rooney admitted he was ’embarrassed’ by the Rashford situation after seeing the forward training alone at Carrington.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, the recently sacked Plymouth manager said: “I went into Carrington on Sunday to take my kids to game day, and Marcus Rashford was out on the training pitch with the fitness coach.
“But he was right over towards where the parents were walking past for the kids’ games. I looked at him, thinking how embarrassing it must be for him as parents walk past.”
Rooney added: “I was surprised when [t issues] started over two years ago, but now I’m not.
“I’ve spoken to Marcus a couple of times, and I’ve given him my thoughts and feelings that he needs to leave the football club because whatever is going on in his life and at Manchester United, he’s not the same.
“For him to have a fresh start, he needs to leave the club. The fact that your manager is coming out and saying that you’re not training right is crazy.”
