Robins is currently in his second spell as manager at the club after he first joined in 2012 for five months before returning in 2017.
He helped guide Coventry to the Championship in 2020 just three years after they were competing in League Two.
However, fan frustrations were visible to see at the full-time whistle against Preston as they fell to a sixth league defeat of the season.
In a video posted on TikTok, Robins can be seen walking towards the home fans and applauding them for their support in the match.
The 54-year-old then pointed to a supporter who was standing near the front of the stand and made his way across to him.
Robins and the fan appeared to be exchanging words with each other, with the former being held back by a steward.
He then applauded another section of the stand before turning back to the original supporter and gesturing towards them and other angry fans.
Robins swiftly walked back onto the pitch to join his players who also showed their appreciation for the support after the poor result.
The tension comes just days after a talkSPORT listener called into The Sports Bar and tipped the Coventry boss for the job with England.
“Can I give you who I think we should have gone for? Mark Robins, Coventry,” he said, responding to the FA’s appointment of German coach Thomas Tuchel.

“Look at what he’s done with the team’s he’s got, he got a team all the way up to the semi-finals of the FA Cup…”
Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Tuchel was named as England’s appointment but the caller didn’t seem too impressed.
“Thomas Tuchel’s just become the first German manager not to win the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich…” he said, with hosts Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy left stunned.
Robins looks set to remain in charge at Coventry for now but will need to deliver results soon to steer clear of the relegation zone.
They are 21st in the Championship and outside of the bottom-three only on goal difference ahead of Queens Park Rangers, who they play next.
Coventry’s tally of just two league wins all season will have to increase if they are to avoid the prospect of a fight for survival.
