Martha Babirye triumphs at 2024 Jinja Ladies Golf Open

KCB Jinja ladies Open 2024:

Overall gross winners:

Ladies: Martha Babirye – 222

Men: Joseph Cwinya-ai – 209

Juniors winners:

Boys: Jonathan Musisi – 32 points

Girl: Winnie Musuya – 256 Gross

Seniors winner: Bernard Amwiine – 35 points

Martha Babirye won the overall prize at the 2024 KCB Jinja Ladies Open.

Playing off handicap handicap two, Babirye amassed a total of 222 gross to beat off stiff competition from Peace Kabasweka, who returned 229 gross.

Judith Komugisha (233) and the long hitting Meron Kyomugisha (237) followed suit.

The winner (Babirye) earned a trophy, other goodies and a fully paid for trip to the KCB East African Tour coming up this December.

Other top performers in ladies category:

Left handed Gloria Mbaguta (handicap 3) was round one top winner with 80 gross.

Resty Nalutaaya (handicap 4) took round two (80 gross) whilst Assa Nambogwe (handicap 9) won round three with 89 gross.

Bronze category:

Peace Hellen (handicap 23) won the gross bronze category with 189 whilst Barbara Mbabazi (handicap 30) had 133 net to excel in this division.

Joy Mirembe (handicap 36) and Hellen Lunkuse (handicap 30) scored 150 and 157 net for second and third positions respectively.

Ladies subsidiary:

Hellen Kisinde (handicap 33) scored 37 points to win the subsidiary section for the ladies ahead of Patricia Nakasi handicap 18) and Sarah Nduhukire (handicap 13) who scored 35 and 32 points respectively.

Net top performers:

Bridget Basiima (handicap 9) scored 219 nett to win this category. Robinah Angom (handicap 12) had a countback net victory of 226 over Lillian Koowe.

Berna Musanabera (handicap 7) had 76 net to topple round one, Nerima Shaminah (handicap 11) scord 75 net to win round two and Gloria Nanyonga (handicap 12) scored 78 net to win round three

Meanwhile, Joseph Cwinya-ai won the overall men gong after scoring 68, 70 and 71 in three rounds for a total of 209 over 54 holes.

Like Babirye, Cwinya-ai will also earn a fully paid for trip to the KCB East African Tour in Kenya this December.

“It was a great tournament in Jinja and I thank the rest of the players for the fair sporting display. I applaud all the tournament sponsors in a special way for making this happen. To my personal sponsors, It is always a pleasure to work together” Cwinya-ai remarked after his victory.

The reigning Uganda Amateur Golf Open amateur champion Joseph Reagan Akena (68, 71, 73) came second with 212.

Titus Okwong (216), Elton Thembo (220), Sande Lulet (222) and Godfrey Kambale (222) completed the top six.

Juniors:

Jonathan Musisi and Winnie Musuya were the outstanding male and female juniors respectively.

Handicap 30 senior Bernard Amwiine scored 35 points to win the 55 years plus category.

Groups’ exceling players:

In group A, Angelo Wasike (handicap 4) scored 38 points to win over Rob Heppel (handicap 7) with 35 points.

Denis Aguma (handicap 12) excelled in group B with 38 points ahead of Mark Rubatsimbira (handicap 14) with 35 points on countback.

Pool C had Daniel Ochieng (handicap 34) as winner with 48 points. Ronald Pulle (handicap 23) had 39 points the runners’ up slot.

Professionals:

The paid cluster had the likes of Opio Onito (140), Irene Nakalembe (146), Fred Wanzala (148), Flavia Namakula (149), Ronald Bukenya (150), Ismail Muhmoud (153), Eva Magala (159) and Grace Ocici (160) all competing for the total kitty of Ug.Shs 3,000,000.

Side bets:

John Rabie (men) and Bridget Basiima (ladies) won the nearest to the pin competition with the longest drive contest claimed by Nelson Ojwiya (men) and Meron Kyomugisha (ladies) excel.
