Marvin Kibirige was exceptional during the professional section of the 2024 Equity Naro open championship at the MaryLouise Simkins Memorial Golf course in Namulonge.

A member of Namulonge club, Kibirige struck a course record score of 7-under-62 during round two of the championship to better his round one score of 2-under-67 for a total of 9-under-129 in 36 holes.

The Munig Engineering sponsored player had a bogie free second round with 7 birdies (1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11) and the rest were pars.

During the opening round, Kibirige also had 7 birdies (1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 16 and 18), 7 pars (3, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 17), 3 bogies (4, 7 and 8) and one double bogie on hole 7.

“I am excited for my performance and look forward maintaining this coming to the new season” Kibirige who earned a bulk of the Ug.Shs 10,000,000 total kitty revealed.

Tom Jingo was second best with scores of 65 and 70 (135) and James Koto came third with James Koto 68, 70 (138).

The trio of Phillip Kasozi, David Kamulindwa and Abraham Ainamani tied in fourth place with 140 gross apiece.

Meanwhile, the gross category was won by another Namulonge bred player Abdallah Kakooza who scored a total of 213 gross in three rounds for a grueling 54 holes.

Joseph Reagan Akena (214), Titus Okwong (215), Joseph Cwinya-ai (217), Charles Lwanga Mulyanga (218) and Joseph Kasozi (218) followed suit.

Group top performers:

Mark Rubatsimbira won group A (men) with 69 nett ahead of Collins Bulafu (73) and Elton Thembo (74).

The men group B was won by Allan Akiira with 34 points. Luke Nyakarahuka (33) and Charles Lutwama (30) followed suit.

Brian Aldomoro (41 points) was outstanding in group C. Jude Kyobe (39) was runners up whilst Dennis Katalihwa (38) finished third.

Faith Namara and Florence Namara finished with 30 and 25 points in group A.

Group B ladies was won by Gloria Owomugisha with 40 points ahead of Justina Ichabala with 31 points.

Seniors:

The senior category (55 years and above) was won by Kenneth Katarikawe (men) while Jennife Opio won the female cluster.

Side-bets:

Resty Nalutaaya shot longest on hole 16 with Dephas Niwangumya having the longest shot among the men.

Baker Kisambira was the winner of the nearest to the pin competition on hole 11.
