With uncertainty over the availability of Moi International stadium, Kasarani the venue for the biggest game in Kenya between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia on Sunday, Daniel Shikanda has proposed the derby be hosted outside Kenya.

The highly anticipated clash in the Mashemeji derby is due on Sunday March 2 as per the fixtures released by FKF on Tuesday.

However, due to ongoing renovations at Kasarani ahead of the rescheduled Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) due in August, Kasarani could be unavailable.

“We may not play in Kasarani and I can’t accept the fixture to be played at Dandora or Kenyatta in Machakos because these venues can’t stage such a big fixture,” Shikanda stated as quoted by the Daily Nation.

“How would you move the canopy at Kasarani which is a construction site? Shikanda wondered.

“As of now, the game is scheduled for Sunday but there is no venue and I don’t know where they will play. Let FKF plan so that we can play in Tanzania or Uganda where Harambee Stars staged their matches.

“For now, as the host team, we just to have wait and if there is no convenient venue, then the fixture will be postponed or will go to Uganda or Tanzania.”

The derby was originally scheduled on November 23 last year but was postponed as both the Kasarani and Nyayo were closed for renovations.

Both teams resisted the option of playing the game behind closed doors.

The two sides are currently separated by two points with Gor Mahia in 3rd place on 36 points after 21 matches while AFC Leopards are 5th with 34.
