Lugazi Football Club progressed to the round of 32 in the 51^st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup competition.

Christened as the leaders, Lugazi overcame Mayuge United 2-0 at the Mayuge playground on Wednesday, 15^th January 2025.

Two first half goals by Sam Ssemugugu and Abdul Kalanzi inspired Lugazi to victory.

Ssemugugu broke the resilience of the third division side in the 24^th minute before Kalanzi got the second goal as the first half ended.

The second half did not witness any goals as Lugazi progressed to the round of 32.

“This game has motivated us as a team coming to the matches as we yearn for more wins ahead of us. Strategy was to win. Tactically, the players were calm and concentrated. The character of the players was spot on. We were aggressive more especially in the first half.” Oliver Mbekeka, assistant coach remarked.

Meanwhile, Wakiso Giants qualified at the expense of Mbarara Football Club, following a 1-0 win in Mbarara city.

Blanchar Mulamba scored Wakiso Giants’ only goal.

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) needed 2-1 tense post penalty victory over Kalongo United in Agogo district.

Normal time had ended 1-all with the home side scoring a last-minute gasp equalizer after Denis Kisiriko had given the tax collectors a 48th minute goal.

Lugazi, Wakiso Giants and URA join the other qualified clubs to the round of 32 as Soltilo Bright Stars, Gaddafi, current Stanbic Uganda Cup holders Kitara, last year’s losing finalists NEC, Express, BUL, Vipers and Packwach Young Stars.

The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup qualifies to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.
