Mbale Heroes Football Club woes on and off the field of play continue before the climax of the first round for the 2024-2025 Uganda Premier League season.
Head coach Asaph Mwebaze has been temporarily suspended for a period of 28 days, as communicated by the club chairperson Andrew Wambi.
“Your job responsibilities with the club have been temporarily suspended effective immediately…pending further investigations against professional misconduct and unethical behavior for 28 days. Detailed copies of investigations will be availed to you within 28 days and you will be entitled to half pay within that stipulated period. It is also in the best interest of the club and for your own safety that this suspension has been issued” a letter addressed to Mwebaze on 27th December 2024 read.
The letter points to the alleged professional misconduct and unethical behavior when the coach was accused of attacking the top leadership and fans via various social media handles, confrontation with fans in the aftermath of their 0-4 home loss to Vipers.
The suspension means Mwebaze will not be in charge for the club matches against Maroons and NEC, pending investigations.
Mwebaze has had a torrid epoch at Mbale Heroes since he rejoined the club especially with the fans who felt unpleased with the management decision to rehire him.
This season so far; Mbale Heroes has won twice in 13 matches played so far, with 3 draws and 8 losses.
They have fetched 9 points, same as Wakiso Giants and Soltilo Bright Stars.
It remains unclear who will be in charge of Mbale Heroes’ bench for the period Mwebaze will be serving his suspension but goalkeeping coach Peter Ssebagala, a CAF “A” holder is present and is expected to chip in.
