Mbarara City FC registered their first win at home this season after overcoming Mbale Heroes on Saturday at Kakyeka Stadium.

On a soggy ground, the Ankole Lions grinded out a 1-0 win thanks to Joseph Akandwanaho’s sole effort.

From the prevous three home games, Mbarara City FC were yet to pick a win, drawing against Police FC, Kitara FC and losing 3-1 to Vipers SC.

Today, the Livingstone Mbabazi coached side had to dig deep to secure all three points.

Henry Kitegenyi should have fired Mbarara City into the lead in the 19th minute but failed to get the ball beyond goalkeeper Paul Mujapwani.

Akandwanaho’s cross was fumbled by a Mbale Heroes defender and the ball fell onto the feet of Kitegenyi but his attempted lobe was easily picked by the goalkeeper.

The decisive moment eventually came in the 55th minute when Akandwanaho’s frail effort from a free kick evaded everyone and found its way into the back of the net.

The result takes the Ankole Lions to 10th place on 12 points while newcomers Mbale Heroes drop to the bottom of the table on 5 points.
