Mike Tyson is boxing eight rounds per day ahead of his highly anticipated bout with Jake Paul.
Tyson revealed the workout routine to his close friend, the sports broadcaster Jim Gray, where he also stated how he plans on beating YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Paul.
The 58-year-old also confirmed that there are other YouTube stars out there who he could fight once he gets past Paul.
The pair clash in a heavyweight bout this Friday at the AT&T Stadium, which can accommodate 80,000 fans, and is being broadcast live on Netflix.
It’s a blockbuster card that also features Irish boxer Katie Taylor’s rematch against Amanda Serrano where Taylor puts her women’s super-lightweight titles on the line.
When asked about the kind of shape he is in ahead of his Texas bout with Paul, who is 31 years his junior, Tyson admitted he was raring to get out there and fight.
“I don’t know, you tell me?” he told Gray on Let’s Go! alongside legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick.
“I’m boxing eight rounds every day. I’m just ready. I fooled myself. I can’t believe I’m at this stage of my life where I’m ready to go in there and fight.
“At this stage of my life, I don’t need that kind of [‘Iron Mike’] kick. There’s no need for me to have that guy in my life anymore, not even for combat.
“There’s no room for him in my life no more in no situation.”
Tyson’s fight with Paul was originally scheduled to take place in July, but postponed after the former suffered an ulcer flare-up.
Now we are just days away.
Asked why people will want to watch the fight, which is on Netflix, Tyson sent a chilling message. “My intentions are to hurt Jake Paul, he added.
“I’m very serious about this. My intentions are to hurt him.”
To kick off fight week, the pair sat down for a face-to-face interview in which Paul gifted Tyson a pigeon—a bird the boxing legend has loved since his childhood.
Tyson was also questioned about Paul’s previous boxing bouts, where he has knocked out the likes of former UFC champion Tyron Woodley and lost to Tommy Fury.
“For this stage of his life, that’s great. This is a total different stage of his life now,” Tyson added.
“He’s reaching a total different state that I believe he’s going to be totally overwhelmed with. I think he’s going to get knocked out.”
‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ also stated there are plenty of YouTubers out there who he could potentially fight next.
KSI is one of the founding members of influencing fighting and owns Misfits Boxing, a crossover boxing promotion.
His two fights with Paul’s brother, Logan, are some of the largest crossover boxing events to date.
One of Paul’s earlier opponents AnEsonGib takes on Slim Albaher in a mouthwatering grudge match at Misfits 19 in Qatar on Thursday, November 28.
KSI’s brother Deji is back on the scene, while Salt Papi will be in action too.
It’s unlikely Tyson will find himself up against any of the above names should he get past Paul.
However, in an intriguing Instagram post, former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis posted his thoughts on the fight.
He said in his caption, with a gaming simulation of the fight attached that Tyson KO’d Paul in: “So I hear Mike Tyson will be fighting Jake Paul. Not quite sure how that will go but it could be something like this.”
Rumours have emerged this week that Lewis is willing to come out of retirement to rematch the former heavyweight king,
The 58-year-old will for sure not be short of options in what is set to be on the most-viewed boxing fights of all time.
