Mike Tyson’s ex-trainer Jeff Fenech believes Jake Paul could be knocked out within 30 seconds.
Heavyweight legend Tyson will return at the age of 58 to take on Paul in a surprising professional bout on November 15 in Dallas, Texas.
Tyson is ready to step in and beat Paul at the age of 58AFP
‘Iron Mike’ has been in training camp for a few weeks, and insists that he still has the power to produce another KO, in a nod to his ferocious punching style during his heyday.
And Fenech, who trained Tyson during the final stages of his professional career, insists it is actually the veteran’s head movement that he should beware of.
“If it was my decision, I’d much prefer him not fight at all, but he’s going to fight,” Fenech said to The Mirror.
“I’ve spoken to him a few times [recently]. I spoke to him about the fight.
“Realistically, if Mike uses upstairs and nothing else, and does the right things, this could be the easiest money he’s ever made.
“When you’re both throwing punches, it’s a 50/50 thing who lands. But if Mike concentrates and makes him miss, and then makes him pay. That’s what Mike’s an expert in, he’s got great head movement.
“If he does that in 30 seconds, the fight could be over in 30 seconds. Mike just needs to use his common sense, don’t try to punch when he’s punching, make him miss and make him pay.
“Jake Paul doesn’t have the skill, the boxing knowledge. I’ve watched him but anyone can punch a pad or a bag or someone who really can’t fight.
“When you’re bigger and you’re stronger, that’s all good. But Mike, as a heavyweight, was a great defensive fighter.
“He could slip and make people miss. If he does that and lands a counter-punch, then the fight is going to be over.
Fenech worked with Tyson and is confident he can winGETTY
“There’s not a chance in the world Jake Paul can take a Mike Tyson hook, a Mike Tyson right hand or a Mike Tyson uppercut.”
Paul has nowhere near the levels of experience that former undisputed champion Tyson has.
But he is in his physical prime at the age of 27, and will likely be the favourite given his superior condition.
It could be a damaging stain on the legacy of Tyson, who already suffered three defeats in his last four fights when retiring from the professional ranks in 2005.
He returned in a better-matched exhibition contest against Roy Jones Jr in 2020, but this will likely take much more out of his body.
Tyson has already spoken of his intentions to take risks despite his age, with the financial reward also a good incentive.
But is proving a real uphill battle, given he has admitted he is ‘struggling’ with the physical aspects of sparring and preparation.
Paul and Tyson have faced widespread criticism for choosing to stage the fight, but it will go ahead nonetheless.
The veteran has already pulled out with a flared up stomach ulcer, but is confident he will be able to fight next month.
