Mohamed Salah has caused Liverpool fans to go into panic mode after alluding to a potential exit from Liverpool.
Reflecting on Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Brighton in which he scored the winner, Salah posted on X: “Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there’s only 1 champion in the end.
“That’s what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
The winger’s current Liverpool contract is set to run out in June 2025 but Liverpool fans have not given up trying to convince their star to sign another deal.
One fan said in response to the post: “Please, please, please stay.”
Another said: “Sign da thing Mo lets aim for Shearer [Premier League record].”
This fan said: “‘I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.’ Reading this hurts don’t tell me you’re leaving king.”
While this fan added: “Stay forever!”
This is not the first time the Egyptian has hinted at leaving the Reds.
After a 3-0 victory over Manchester United in September he said: “I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and think positively a bit.
“As you know, this is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it. I don’t want to think about it; I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”
Salah is a living legend having won the Champions League and helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to a first league title since 1990 during the 2019/20 season.
Premier League fans will remember the front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Salah that set English football alight, the 32-year-old being the only one remaining in Merseyside.
Despite the side going through change including key players leaving and Arne Slot replacing Klopp, Salah has willed the Reds on to currently sitting first in the league.
His sumptuous curling effort against Brighton sped past a helpless Bart Verbruggen to net his seventh goal alongside five assists in ten matches.
Speaking on the goal Slot said: “The second goal was a Mo Salah special. It’s not the first and not the last time he will score from that position.”
With the emergence of the Saudi Pro League it is rumoured to be Salah’s preferred destination for a massive contract as he edges closer to retirement.
Ivan Toney in August signed for Al-Ahli from Brentford and reportedly earns £400,000 a week. Salah will possibly demand more.
Virgil van Dijk is also on the last year of his contract alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold who has been linked with a free transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Liverpool fans would hate to see their key trio leave for possibly nothing in return.
