Monday racing tips
Hereford
2.00: Lock Out 11/10 (1.5pts)
2.30: Lenjoleur De Palma 7/2 (1pt)
3.00: The Height Of Fame 9/2 (1.5pts)
Lock Out
Won a Class 4 handicap chase on return from a break just three days ago.
Goes down in class and down the weights for this one though, so is somehow 5lb better off and as a result, becomes a strongly backed favourite.
That was his first win over fences having struggled through 2023 in general, over both hurdles and fences.
But clearly at least being dropped to this weight and now beyond is going to be huge, especially after going so well back from a break where things have just started to click.
7lb claimer Gearoid Harney also retains the ride for the David Pipe-trained horse and has all the advantages to win again.
Lenjoleur De Palma
Don’t often tip newcomer races as there’s too much risk attached, question marks on ability and of course no proven form.
But pedigree, market movers and much more can be a big indicator in these kinds of races, that can often produce value in the betting. For instance, some top horses just don’t win their debuts but go on to have the most successful careers and it works on the flipside too.
Crest Of Honour has drifted in the market despite the yard doing well with 3yo newcomers.
While, Aotano has remained firm as the favourite in the Simon Munir & Isaac Souede colours.
The most expensive horse of the lot by quite some distance and is a half brother to a French Group 3 winner.
Soldier Hollow has sired many decent jumpers over the years but one that has seen some movement in the betting is Lenjoleur De Palma.
He’s from a fairly new yard, but one that has now seen a 24% strike-rate over fences, though the same can’t be said for their hurdle returns.
But his pedigree looks great; out of Evolue De Palma who won a French AQPS on the flat and by the successful sire Born To Sea. Interesting and potentially underestimated initially coming into this.
The Height Of Fame
Magic Seven has won here three times including over 2m and 2m3f but hasn’t quite been able to live up to the mark given by the handicapper.
Baskerville looks well-weighted winning at Uttoxeter in novice company before heading into a handicap for the first time at Market Rasen in July, placing a close third.
However, The Height Of Fame seems to have the ideal form heading into this and a return to this distance and ground should spark a return to winning ways.
She started hurdling in 2021 off a mark of 81 and has slowly but surely progressed, before really showing ability this season as a seven-year-old.
Winning by 17 lengths at Newton Abbot over this distance in July, placing a neck second to Minella Double at Worcester in a Class 3 Handicap, before going on for third on good to soft (the ground said to be the issue).
She’s won 6 from 18 and looks to progress further this season.
