Woodland Park
Woodland Park’s hurdle debut is quite promising as it has worked out quite well with the winner, I Wish You’s form.
I Wish You came second to Wreckless Eric back in February but that winner went on to win at Cheltenham on Friday, beating 14 rivals.
The four-year-old also had three runs over hurdles before facing the hurdle debutant who clearly put in a good race, carrying 4lb more than the winner.
They finished well ahead of the rest of the field too at Carlisle last month and it’s no surprise to see the Walk In The Park gelding a big favourite in this big field.
He has the experience which can be crucial especially first time jumpers.
The next in the betting is around 6/1 who came 4th on hurdle debut at Wetherby last month.
A lot of the rivals today could be anything but it’s wise to follow the form and the betting in this instance.
Almazhar Garde
Almazhar Garde has run on average every month since last October, all over 2m7f-3m3f.
Going from a rating of 123 down to 107 right back up to 117 with him coming to form this autumn.
He’s a massive price but given his consistency of late and waiting another month since his last race he could be a great value place bet.
The Wolf and Impatient are carrying penalties for their recent wins, facing a quick turnaround from their races last week.
While Nothin To Ask wasn’t quite up to it at Chepstow on return to fences, on his seasonal debut.
Giving the Charlie Longsdon-trained horse more cause to at least get a place at a nice price.
Matchless
Usually stay away from odds-on bets but if you’re including Matchless in any multiples it’s not a bad way to go.
He carries the same weight as Tara Iti who is rated well below him and even gets given 6lb from a horse rated 21lb less.
He drops into this selling hurdle having shown good form in some nice handicaps recently including behind Here Comes Georgie who won on the weekend.
Menaggio
Menaggio switched to fences last month, after a decent five attempts over hurdles last season and won comfortably ahead of War Lord.
Upped only 4lb and given that was over course and distance last time, he’s got to be considered again today.
Sea Invasion however, has some great hurdle form and if he’s taking to fences well would be a huge threat.
He placed a close third behind Doyen Quest in April at Cheltenham and of course that horse won comfortably again at that course at the weekend in the November Meeting.
But it’s hard to base that form over hurdles into this discipline.
In fact he faces all chase debutants today which could well be a big advantage, given the betting hasn’t indicated a strong chase debut from any of Menaggio’s rivals.
The five-year-old stepped up to fences with ease and is clearly on the up for Alan King and is another big favourite but smart bet.
Vocito
Very interesting four-runner event over fences. Koenigsstern went well on chase debut to suggest he’s on the up but did struggle over hurdles in a way as he was 0-5.
Could be a much better chaser but he faces Vocito and Nevendon.
Vocito was favourite last time out at Newton Abbot, just 19 days ago but that was won by the well-weighted Major Fortune who was well-backed and clearly better.
Though Vocito dropped out of that race his better form over hurdles this season now really means his chase rating could be much lower than his ability.
He hasn’t been seen over fences since November 2023 but with Olly Murphy now taking him chasing he looks very interesting.
Nevendon has had a few goes over fences too, winning once and even placing second last time out, but that form suggests he will need to step it up today.
