Plascon Mongers are a tricky rugby club to understand.
From the outside, they can easily be labelled as the most stable rugby club in the 2025 men’s Uganda Rugby Premiership. They neither challenge for trophies nor find themselves under threat of relegation.
But when you zoom in, things are not looking good at the lakeside Entebbe-based club. At the halfway point of the regular season, Mongers have two wins out of six matches, and are currently in ninth place, just outside the Premiership Playoffs positions.
The two wins were against newly-promoted Elgon Wolves in the opening round of the season and against Kampani Eagles still feeling immense pain from their teammate’s tragic death the past week.
The four back-to-back to back-to-back losses have seen Mongers drop places from fourth to ninth in an inconspicuous fashion.
Mongers have been a common fixture in high-scoring matches. A half-century of points has been scored in three matches, with two others going above thirty points.
Mongers’ Results in the 2025 men’s Uganda Rugby Premiership:
- Round Six: Mongers 35-12 Eagles
- Round Five: Walukuba 47-30 Mongers
- Round Four: Mongers 08-52 Pirates
- Round Three: Mongers 32-40 Pirates
- Round Two: Mongers 13-26 Buffaloes
- Round One: Elgon Wolves 03-12 Mongers
It is popularly said by rugby experts that defence wins titles while attack wins matches. Right now is too early to start talking about the title, so Mongers’ priority at this point is winning matches.
That they have been able to score a try in each of their matches is one of the places where Mongers can derive inspiration to rescue themselves.
But things are most likely going to get worse before they start to look good again for Mongers.
Their run of upcoming fixtures starting with this Saturday has KOBs, Jinja Hippos and Heathens in that order. Then a release of the pressure valve with Victoria Sharks and Warriors to conclude the regular season.
