Miocic hasn’t fought since losing the title via knockout to Francis Ngannou in March 2021.

Most fans feel the Ohio puncher isn’t deserving of an immediate title shot after such a long stretch of inactivity, especially at 42 years old.

Instead, the fight the MMA world is clambering to see is Jones vs Tom Aspinall.

For now, that is on the back burner and Jones’ attention is locked in on what he describes as his ‘legacy fight’.

‘Bones’ has left no stone unturned in training and is close to the shape of his life ahead of his autumn showdown.

When Jones first moved up to heavyweight, he was carrying some extra timber around his midriff, but he appears to have trimmed down significantly judging from recent pictures.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday night, Jones uploaded a shirtless snap to his story which has stunned fans.

One supporter wrote: “Jon Jones officially has a six pack again. Game over, heavyweights.”

Another added: “He is in the best shape I’ve seen him in.”

A third fan tweeted: “Heavyweight Jon Jones is a beast.”

Meanwhile, somebody else coined him a ‘Monster’.

Jones and Miocic were initially supposed to square off in November 2023 at UFC 295, however, the fight was postponed after ‘Bones’ tore a pectoral muscle in training.

As a result, White booked an interim title fight between Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich, which the Brit won.

He later defended it against Curtis Blaydes and is now in a primed position to challenge for the full world title, although Jones insists he will retire after his next fight.

Taking to Instagram earlier this year, he wrote: “Fun fact after this year Jon Jones will never have to work again, retired at age 37. Winning.”
