JKL Lady Dolphins were overwhelming favourites going into the 2024 Women’s National Basketball League Playoff Finals.
However, the defending champions fell to UCU Lady Canons in the series opening two games, finding themselves in a rather uncomfortable place.
A third straight win for the Lady Canons would mean JKL have no room for error if they are to defend their championship. And on Sunday evening, the Lady Dolphins toughened up and picked a 72-54 victory in Game 3.
Hope Akello (16 points, 15 rebounds) and Jane Asinde (17 points, 12 rebounds) delivered on their part but the unlikely hero was Agatha Kamwada who was solid on both ends of the ball. The forward who finished with 14 points hit four 3-pointers with each keeping the Lady Canons at bay every time they tried to put on a run.

Evelyn Nakiyingi directed JKL’s traffic very well and more often than not delivered on her defensive assignment, Shakirah Nanvubya.
While Lady Canons struggled offensively with only Navubya (16 points) and Hajara Najjuko (12 points) reaching double digits, they did not defend particularly well after the opening quarter as they were often lost in the defensive actions.
Game 4 of the series is set for Wednesday.
