NEC outwits UCU Mbale, progress to round of 32 | 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup

51st Stanbic Uganda Cup (Round of 64)

Friday, 10th January 2025:

  • UCU Mbale 0-4 NEC
  • Tepa 1-2 Vipers
  • Pakwach Young Stars 3-0 Kigezi Homeboyz

NEC Football Club progressed to the round of 32 stage in the 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

This followed a comprehensive 4-0 victory on the road at the Mbale City Stadium on Friday, 10th January 2025.

Emmanuel Ajo, James Jarieko, Allan Mugalu and Dickson Niwamanya were on target for Hussein Mbalangu’s coached side.

Ajo put NEC ahead in the 28th minute. Jarieko and Mugalu added two quick goals on the stroke of half time for a commanding 3-0 lead by the half-way break.

Second half substitute Niwamanya who had replaced Jarieko in the 77th minute wrapped up the scoring business with an 87th minute strike for the deserved victory.

NEC lost in the finals (0-1) to Kitara during last season’s finale played at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium.

Meanwhile, three-time champions Vipers edged Tepa 2-1 at the Aloysius Core PTC ground in Ngora.

Livingstone Mulondo was on target for Vipers who have won this trophy in 2015-2016, 2019-2020 and lately in 2022-2023 season.

Elsewhere, Pakwach Young Stars bundled out FUFA Big League entity Kigezi Home Boyz 3-0 at the St Mary’s Omach ground.

The matches continue on Sunday, 12th January 2024 with three matches.

Red Devo hosts Express at the Namasale Technical school playground.

BUL will travel to Entebbe Road to face Garuga Stars at the Chrish playground in Garuga and Young Simba shall play host to holders KItara at the Bombo Military barracks stadium.

The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup qualifies to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.
