Following their elimination from the Stanbic Uganda Cup, NEC now turns attention to the league ahead of their home clash with NEC on Saturday.

Hussein Mbalangu’s men come into the game on the back of two disappoint results, drawing 1-1 with Police in the league and then losing 2-0 to Fufa Big League side, Blacks Power in the Uganda Cup.

With Vipers not in action until Sunday, the Bugolobi based side have a chance to move top of the table with victory against a side that beat them in the first round.

NEC are on 37 points, three adrift of the Venoms who host Mbarara City in the league.

“We now shift focus to the premier league,” said Mbalangu after defeat to Blacks Power.

He is expected to recall several players to the starting eleven including first choice goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo, Paul Mucureezi and Cromwell Rwothomio who all started on the bench in defeat to the Lira based side.

Meanwhile, 11th placed Lugazi are in good form with back-to-back wins since the start of the second round with slim victories over Police and Wakiso Giants which put them on 20 points.

Ironically, they were the last side to beat NEC in the premier league, 1-0 in Lugazi and the side has since gone ten matches without defeat.

In other matches which kick off early, Soltilo Bright Stars host BUL at Kavumba, Mbale Heroes are at home to Police while URA make a trip to Hoima to face hosts Kitara at Butema.
