New look, same issues – Nick Sirianni makes no apology for latest clash with Philadelphia Eagles

Nick Sirianni was rocking a new look on the sideline on Sunday, but don’t be fooled.

The Philadelphia Eagles head coach caused a social media stir with a brand new haircut, but with the pressure still on it appears he continues to look like a man feeling the heat.

In the closing moments in a 20-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the FOX broadcast caught Sirianni seemingly taunting his own fanbase and mocking the home crowd.

And the game was at Lincoln Financial Field. Not Cleveland.

A tough victory over a struggling Browns team appeared to do little for an Eagles fanbase who might have a team with a winning record – but their implosion down the stretch last season means problems never seem to far away.

A misfiring offense did have receivers AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith back in the line-up but Saquon Barkley was bottled up – with the game only secured when Smith caught Jalen Hurts pass for a 45-yard touchdown with eight minutes remaining.

When asked after the game about the interaction, Sirianni let out a wry smirk.

“Just excited, just excited to get the win,” Sirianni said. “It’s hard to win in this league, so we’re excited to get the win.”

Pressed more on his interaction with the fans, the Eagles coach – who lost six of his last seven games last season, including an ugly Wild Card playoff defeat to the Tamp Bay Buccaneers – said.

“Our fans created a couple of false starts that really helped us win this football game. Just excited to get the win and appreciate the Linc’s support.”

If it wasn’t clear, Sirianni was very excited to get the win.

Coming out of their bye week at 2-2, the Eagles have had an uneven start to the season, plagued by injuries and inconsistent play.

They needed to come out with a win on Sunday against the dumpster fire that is Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns.

And they did.

With the offense being the healthiest its been all season, quarterback Jalen Hurts returned to form, finishing 16-25 for 264 yards and two touchdowns.

It helped having his two top receivers back in the lineup.

Brown and Smith combined for nine receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles now sit at 3-2 and second in the NFC East.

Their next fives games are at the Giants, at the Bengals, home versus the Jags and then at the Cowboys, before a huge showdown with the first-place Commanders at home.

In other words, very winnable games – two against divisional rivals – before they host the NFC East-leading Washington.

With rumblings of Sirianni’s seat getting warm, he is going to need to keep stacking wins if he wants to keep his job.

What he probably shouldn’t be doing, is running his mouth at his own fans in an overall uninspiring win versus one of the worst, if not the worst, teams in the league.

Sirianni has always ran hot, that’s who he is.

He may change his hairstyle, but he isn’t changing his fiery arrogant attitude that Eagles fan have grown tired of.

Whether or not it costs him his job, remains to be seen.
