Newcastle United have their fate in their own hands. A victory on the final day of the Premier League weekend will guarantee a top-five finish and Champions League qualification for Eddie Howe’s side.
Everton could spoil the party at St James’ Park, though, so Newcastle must remain fully focused on the task at hand. Will they get over the line?

Newcastle United vs Everton predictions
Newcastle United are within touching distance of sealing a return to the Champions League.
Eddie Howe’s side had the chance to get over the line last weekend, but a 1-0 defeat by Arsenal means their fate is still undecided heading into the final day.
Most Newcastle supporters would have gladly accepted being in this position at the start of the season, especially as the club has also been able to end a 56-year silverware drought by winning the EFL Cup.
Lifting a trophy and qualifying for the Champions League would probably make this Newcastle’s most successful season for decades. They are not quite there yet, though.
Earlier in the campaign, it looked like Newcastle would struggle to secure a seat at Europe’s top table for 2025/26.
After a frustrating summer in which they did not make a single signing to improve their starting XI, Newcastle found it tough to get going in the early months.
By the middle of December, they had won only five of their first 15 league matches and sat 12th in the standings. There was even talk that Howe might have taken the club as far as he could.
Since then, Newcastle have been largely excellent. From gameweek 16 until now, no team in the division has a better points-per-game ratio.
That 1-0 loss to Arsenal means Newcastle can no longer finish as runners-up, but of the five contenders for the three remaining Champions League berths, only Manchester City are better placed.
For Newcastle, unlike Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, the task is simple: win their final match of the campaign and they are certain to secure a top-five finish. In fact, a victory here would probably see them end the campaign in fourth unless Chelsea win big against Forest.
“We’re still in a strong position and it’s in our hands, and I think we have to look at this as a positive,” Howe said after his side’s setback at the Emirates Stadium.
“I think calmness is going to be key at this moment in time. It’s a week before we play. We’ve got to be very calm, make good decisions, and train and prepare well for the game. Nothing changes. The emotion will be there in the game, I don’t think we have to spell that out to the players.”

Newcastle vs Everton betting tips
Newcastle United aim to secure a Champions League berth by beating Everton.
Newcastle -1.5 Asian handicap
Everton bade farewell to Goodison Park last weekend ahead of their move to a new stadium next term.
It was an emotional afternoon for everyone associated with the club as David Moyes’ men beat Southampton 2-0.
It is hard to see how Everton will be able to go again at St James’ Park, especially as they have nothing left to play for.
Everton are guaranteed to finish 13th no matter what happens on Sunday and they will struggle to match Newcastle’s intensity.
The hosts can win this one by a two-goal margin or more.

Newcastle to win to nil
Moyes has done a fine job at Everton since returning to the club in January.
The Toffees were in the relegation mix back then, but they soon rose clear of danger and into the safety of mid-table.
The squad still needs to be improved, though, especially at the top end of the pitch. Everton have been outscored by everyone but the relegated trio in 2024/25.
Newcastle will aim to be defensively solid first and foremost. A clean sheet means they only need one goal to secure Champions League football.
The Magpies can win this one without having to pick the ball out of their own net.

Anthony Gordon to score any time
Alexander Isak missed the game against Arsenal last time out, with Callum Wilson deputising up front.
Wilson is a decent back-up, but Isak is one of the best strikers in Europe, so it was no surprise that Newcastle missed him.
At the time of writing, it is unclear whether or not Isak will be fit to feature against Everton. It is therefore advisable to look elsewhere in the anytime goalscorer market.
Anthony Gordon is our pick. The England international has now had a few games under his belt after injury.
He might even be used through the middle here if Isak is not ready to start.
