Time has finally been called on Erik ten Hag’s reign as Man United manager after another loss on Sunday to West Ham.
The pressure was on the United boss after three dismal draws in the Europa League and a flurry of disappointing results in the Premier League, but their late loss to West Ham was the final straw and now it looks as though another former United player will take the reigns.

Manchester United had their worst ever finish in the Premier League last season under Ten Hag, finishing in eighth.
They did win the final of the FA Cup, but it has been another terrible start to this season that has caused unrest from fans and now the board over the future of the club.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as the interim manager for the time being and was odds-on to take over on a permanent basis but has since drifted to 6/1.
Ruben Amorim has gone from 5/1 to as short as 1/7 with the odds changing quickly in favour of the Portuguese manager.
The 39-year-old has been with Sporting CP since 2020 with an impressive record, with his win-rate as a manager above 70%.
Gareth Southgate is also up there in the list of contenders with the former England boss free to return to club management.
But the 53-year-old has only ever managed Middlesbrough at club level and could be a bit of a gamble, despite his successes and top player management with some of England’s best talent.
The appointment would be a heavily criticised one for many while other candidates can make more of a statement and he’s gone from 7/2 to 8/1 in the betting.
Xavi Hernandez is one of those that would set a precedent, the former Barcelona manager finished his three-year tenure with the La Liga giants with a nearly 63% win-rate.
Managing a total of 142 games and seeing as many as 89 wins, the former midfielder and Spanish legend could bring a much-needed change to the set up.
However, he has drifted in the odds considerably at 14/1 from his odds on the day of the sacking around 6/1.

Van Nistelrooy was appointed as assistant manager in July 2024 after a year away from managerial roles.
He replaced Roger Schmidt as PSV manager in March 2022 and after a huge season, resigned with one game to go having only lost eight out of 51 total matches.
Former Man United stars and legends returning to Old Trafford hasn’t quite worked out yet but the Netherlands striker does know the squad and set up well, and could implement a new style and transition much quicker than an outside hire.
