The NFL Week 14 schedule begins with a bang on Thursday when the Detroit Lions host the Green Bay Packers in a mouthwatering NFC North clash with major playoff ramifications.

The Lions moved to 11-1 after holding off a late rally from the Chicago Bears in their traditional Thanksgiving Day game last week.

Jared Goff threw two touchdown passes to tight end Sam LaPorta and Jake Bates made three first-half field goals as Detroit scraped home 23-20 for their 10th win in succession.

The 9-3 Packers also had plenty to celebrate last week as they saw off the Miami Dolphins at Lambeau Field, helping to land a 24/5 Bet Builder with Josh Jacobs and Tyreek Hill also playing their part by scoring touchdowns.

Green Bay are the underdogs for this week’s matchup at Ford Field, but injuries in the Lions’ camp give them a solid chance of an upset.

We’ve prepared a three-leg bet builder suggestion for the match that pays out at better than 4/1.

Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers tips

  • Green Bay Packers to win
  • Jared Goff over 239.5 passing yards
  • Josh Jacobs over 0.5 rushing touchdowns

Bet Builder odds: 4/1

Packers can upset the Lions at home

The Packers will be looking to build on their impressive 30-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins last week.

Matt LaFleur’s team, who are 9-2 in the month of December since 2021, have won three straight games with quarterback Jordan Love heating up as the regular season nears its conclusion.

Love completed 21 of 28 passes for 278 yards and two scores with no interceptions last week.

He will go up against a Detroit defense now missing a truckload of starters with linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, who was starting in place of injured Alex Anzalone, now out for the season after tearing his ACL against the Bears.

Injuries to defensive end Josh Paschal (knee) and defensive tackles D.J. Reader (shoulder) and Levi Onwuzurike (hamstring) have left the Lions, who were already without star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson (broken leg) severely depleted up front.

Detroit’s coaches will have to plug new faces signed from rival teams’ practice squads and third-string players into key positions this week and could prove too much to overcome against their division rivals.

Green Bay’s run defense is an improving force too, ranking seventh in the league for opponent yards per carry, and could prove a key difference-maker if they can halt the Lions’ top-ranked rush attack.

Goff to surpass passing yardage

The Packers may have stiffened up against the run, but they still rank 17th in the league against the pass.

And that could be where the Lions look to attack them if their one-two punch of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are unable to get it done on the ground.

Goff has passed for 240 yards or more in seven of Detroit’s 12 games this season and may be forced to throw more often if his team fall behind on the scoreboard.

That’s what happened when Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa posted 365 yards passing on a bitterly cold night at Lambeau Field last week, although it was still not enough for his team to mount a comeback.

Jacobs can find the end zone

Jacobs has been a key part of the Packers’ offense this season, averaging 4.7 yards per carry and scoring eight rushing touchdowns

The former Las Vegas Raiders star has scored seven of those TDs in the last five weeks, underlining his growing importance to Green Bay.

Jacobs is coming off a strong performance against the Dolphins and should be able to punch holes in Detroit’s depleted linebacker corps when the Packers need him in goal-line situations.
