NFL week 3 tips

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0) to beat Denver Broncos (0-2)

Tampa Bay have started the 2024 NFL season in an impressive manner with victories over the Commanders and Lions. They will look to extend this form when they take on the lowly Denver Broncos at home on Sunday.

As a team there aren’t many other sides who look as in sync as the Buccaneers. Quarterback Baker Mayfield looks completely at home in the offence in Tampa, and he has been performing at the top of his game. While their running game has been substandard, this week’s game is a great opportunity to get right against a team they should be beating.

Bo Nix struggles have dominated the discourse around the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are yet to score 13 points and Nix hasn’t scored a throwing touchdown. Tampa’s defence shut down a much better offence in Detroit last weeks and is likely to cause headaches for the struggling rookie this week too.

Sean’s Top Tip: Bo Nix over 1 Interception5/4

Indianapolis Colts (0-2) to beat Chicago Bears (0-2)

Two teams that are underperforming meet in Indy when the Colts battle the Bears.

Caleb Williams has had a tough start the NFL and was tormented by the Texans pass rush last week. Williams is not the first and won’t be the last to find the transition from the college game to the NFL tricky, and predictions for the Bears to be a contender in his rookie season currently look wide of the mark.

The Colts are desperate for a win to keep up in the AFC South. They return home this week and will look to get their first win of the season.

The Bears defensive strengths come from their cornerbacks so it should be expected that Colts will game plan to utilise their run game. They are blessed in two talented runners in Richardson and Taylor who will look to control the game with their legs. If they can get ahead and the pressure builds on Williams to respond it could be a challenging day for the rookie.

Sean’s Top Tip: Anthony Richardson over 41 rushing yards 17/20.

New Orleans Saints (2-0) to beat Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)

In their two match-ups this season the New Orleans Saints have been incredible. Their offence has looked incredibly in sync and Derek Carr appears to have mastered Klint Kubiak’s offensive scheme. In both of their games this season they have scored over 28 points by half time, which has led to two easy victories.

The Eagles self-destructed on Monday night football and lost a game it seemed easier to win. While Saquon Barkley can shoulder some blame for a huge drop at the end of the game, huge attention must go to the Eagles defence who let Kirk Cousins tear them apart in the final minute of the game.

On paper this looks a really tricky day for the Eagles, who desperately need to show that they are capable of being up there with the favourites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. They haven’t been able to put up too much resistance to the run in either of their games, and the Saints have the talent to continue that trend.

Sean’s Top Tip: Chris Olave over 0.5 Touchdowns 31/20

Cleveland Browns (1-1) to beat New York Giants (0-2)

The New York Giants have shown little in their two games so far, and this weeks trip to Cleveland doesn’t look like a great opportunity to show any more. The Browns have one of the best defensive ends in the game in Myles Garrett and he is likely to cause havoc to Giants QB Daniel Jones.

Cleveland can go to 2-1 with a win on Sunday and will be disappointed if they lose their second consecutive game at home. They have leaned on their passing game this season and will look to balance their attack and lean on their running game against a team who has let the 2nd most 10+ yard rushes against them in the NFL. Jerome Ford is a talented runner and will look to build on a 64 yard rushing performance last week.

A comfortable home win seems logical in Cleveland.

Sean’s top tip: Jerome Ford over 49.5 rushing yards – 5/6
