NFL week 4 tips
New York Jets (2-1) to beat Denver Broncos (1-2)
Two AFC teams off big victories last week battle on Sunday as the Broncos visit the New York Jets. The Broncos surprised the Buccaneers away from home, while the Jets demolished the Patriots. Therefore it should be expected that both teams will be feeling confident of their chances.
The Broncos Quarterback Bo Nix was better in last week’s game, however he has thrown four interceptions in his three starts. The Jets defence that hassled and hounded the Patriots last week seem likely to cause the young signal caller issues.
On the Jets side they are obviously encouraged by Aaron Rodgers. The former MVP is well protected by his offensive line and are giving Rodgers time to give produce his magic. This week’s match up seems one the Jets have to win if they have playoff aspirations.
Sean’s Top Tip: Bo Nix over 0.5 interceptions – 3/5
Houston Texans (2-1) to beat Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3)
Both Houston and Jacksonville play a divisional game off the back of big losses in week three. Houston are the home team and will look to pile on the miserable start that Jacksonville have had.
Jacksonville are 0-3 and are struggling on both offence and defence. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills had the game wrapped up by half time on Monday and they face a similarly formidable opponent this week in CJ Stroud and the Texans. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is on a terrible losing streak and seems desperate for some change in his fortunes.
The Texans were poor in Minnesota last week but there were positive signs amongst the issues. They were able to sack Sam Darnold four times in defeat last week and will look to do the same to the distressed Lawrence. While divisional games are always tight to call I have much more confidence in the Texans getting their third win of the season rather than the Jags getting their first.
Sean’s Top Tip: CJ Stroud over 8.5 rushing yards – 17/20.
Cincinnati Bengals (0-3) to beat Carolina Panthers (1-2)
If the Bengals want to live up to their SuperBowl aspirations they will have to win in week four against the Panthers.
The Bengals were excellent on offence against Washington on Monday and scored 33 points. Quarterback Joe Burrow threw three touchdowns and elite wide receiver JaMarr Chase was extremely impressive. However they were atrocious on defence and allowed 38 points to a middling Commanders side on route to losing.
The Panthers were dreadful in their first two games of the season, but showed excellent improvement now the team is led by veteran Andy Dalton. They demolished the Raiders on Sunday and showed that they can be competitive, particularly when going out ahead. Yet on paper the Bengals are a much better team and should have enough once they get going.
Sean’s Top Tip: Bengals -4.5 points handicap – 37/40
LA Rams (1-2) to beat Chicago Bears (1-2)
The Rams showed incredible fight to grab a comeback win against the 49ers on Sunday, and will look to build upon that against Chicago.
The Bears struggled to contain Colts running back Jonathan Taylor last week and Kyran Williams will look to expose their struggles for LA. Head Coach Sean McVay is a master producing an offensive strategy to make the most of the running game on Sunday.
While both teams are 1-2 the Rams feel like a team in a stronger place right now. Despite having big injuries they have been able to get a good response out of their replacements. The Bears are a talented side and it should be a game with both teams scoring a good amount of points, however I give the edge to the Rams to close with a win.
Sean’s top tip: – over 41.5 match points 21/20
